Weight Watchers & Nursing

Has anyone done ww while bf'ing? Did it affect your supply? I'm thinking about joining, but don't want to do anything that might affect my supply just yet...

TIA!

Re: Weight Watchers & Nursing

When you join it asks you some questions to determine your points...if you are a nursing mother...you add 10 points to your daily allowance. So that way you are getting the extra calories you need for nursing!

With the new plan, it says 14 if you're nursing excusively, 7 points if you're DC is on solids or you're supplementing.

Thanks ladies!

Wow, that's a lot more points than I expected. Too bad using it all on chocolate wouldn't work!!!!!!!!

Re: Weight Watchers & Nursing

I actually did have a problem back when I was nursing. I had been nursing for about 9 or 10 months & had lost about 20 lbs when the problems 1st started. I hope these tips help you Chat Icon

1) Eat your extra 14 pts EVERY day - don't skip them. I sometimes didn't eat them & it made a difference.

2) Eat ALL of your extra weekly points every week.

3) Like always, make sure that you drink plenty of water! I was sometimes lax about it because I felt full from the food - I think it hurt me.

4) Eat even more if you need to! I was losing weight at a rate of 1.5-2.5 lbs a week & I think that was part of my problem, so when I saw bigger dips in my supply I just ate more than my weekly points & it sometimes helped. In the end, maintaining my supply was more important to me than losing weight quickly, so I'd eat over my point allowance & risked slowing down my weightloss in order to maintain it.

5) When all else fails, consider taking Fenugreek...it helped me a lot.

That's all I can think of. So long as you're conscious of how the rate of or total lbs of your weightloss affect your supply & you react pretty quickly to counteract it, I think you'll be fine Chat Icon HTH!
