Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
but, I'm bored to balls, so I'm just going to post it anyway
So, I was sitting and pondering my pregnancy the other day, and I realized that sometimes, I feel like it never happened. While I guess that's normal, I think that part of the reason it feels like it never happened is that I never went into labor. Other than a few short-lived Braxton-Hicks contractions, I never felt a real contraction. I almost feel as if there was all this build up and no culminating event to finish out the pregnancy. Now, I knwo what you're thinking, I had a C section and that is labor and I got the baby and all, but sometimes I feel like I had a cliffhanger pregnancy Trust me, I'm not sad that I never experienced the pains of true labor, but I just think it's so odd that I have a baby that I never actually had to go into labor for.

Rachel, I think the same thing sometimes cause I never did the whole labor thing too, I had an emergency C cause I had preclamsia, so that whole day was a big blur to me, I sit her and look at Julia like I can't believe shes mine still.
I totally understand how you feel!

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
Well, for Ava's first birthday, JT and I decided to re-enact Ava's birth the way it should have been. We've even rented a hopital bed and scrubs.
I kid, I kid!

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
I got to experience both...my water broke, i panted beyond belief with contractions 1-2 minutes apart and the baby just never reached 10. I think we ended at 6....so they did a c-section. Honestly, once the c-section was decided and they gave me full drugs...I didnt feel a thing. Giving birth suddenly became heaven...LOL I think however it happens...as long as the baby is healthy...thats what counts.

My water broke. They gave me Cervadli, then pitocin. I didnt get past 2CMs. Almost 30 hours went by. They decided to do a csection. I admit, I was crying in the room when I heard, but, I met my baby within an hour. I never had "true" contractions. I had "period cramps" which were bearable but that was it.

I never went into labor with my first one either. Never had one single contraction. My water broke at 37.5 weeks, I went to hospital, they did a sono to check his position, and since he was still breech, I had a c/s.

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
Rach..once again...right with ya!
Although I was in labor for HOURS...things didnt go as planned. I didnt expect to be given cervadil and then pitocin to get things moving. My water broke but I NEVER had one contraction in my stomach (not that I was asking for it). I never dropped and all of my labor was in my back. I was dialating slowly and many times the baby was in distress during the night.
I pushed for 3 hours..only to find out there was no way I was getting her out like that. So I was rushed in for a c section...and even though I wanted it badly by that point, I still felt like I didnt experience what other mothers do.
My water broke SLOWLY and for a LONG time..I thought once I got to the hospital it was going to be a whirlwind like you see on tv..I was so wrong...nothing went "the way its supposed to" and everything I was deathly afraid of, wound up happening. And although I am happy I felt no contractions in my stomach, I feel like I cant compare labor stories with friends and what not because my experience was SO DIFFERENT.
Seems like we are always on the same page huh? Love ya!

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
I too feel like I had a cliffhanger. My water broke and about an hour later back labor started and continued for 23 hours. The baby was fine all night and then suddenly went into distress so I had an emergeny c-section. I never dilated past 1-2cm and I never had even 1 contraction. I however do feel cheated. I am sad that I never experienced what other women get to experience. It makes me kind of sad. I'm considering a VBAC for next time, but the risks really scare me. Also since I didn't really progress with labor, I don't know if I'd be a good candidate for it.

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
I was saying the exact same thing to my pregnant sister the other day. I never felt a single contraction. I went from being sent the hospital for high blood pressure, to thinking I'd be induced the next morning, to having an emergency c-section that night when the baby's heart rate dropped. I'm happy I never went through the labor pains, but I almost feel like I got jipped.

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
Guys I feel the same way i had a vaginal birth.
My contractions weren't that painful, i got an epi really early and it wasn't shut off until after she was born.
My pushing/birth was so long, painful, i blocked that whole part out of my head, the recovery was even worse. It was awful experience and I am so glad now almost 9 months later I only really remember chatting with relatives, then seeing my baby girl for the first time.
I still look at her sometimes and wonder where she came from, and i thank god i don't remember all that pain during birth and recovery and sometimes i can't believe that gorgeous baby is mine.
with this pg, since my birth and recovery was so bad with DD, i actual want a section so i won't have to go through what i went through with a vaginal.
So yes, I feel jipped i didn't get to have to birth i wanted, or how i thought it would be.

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
I know how you feel, but I feel like that because I didn't do it the natural way.
I had 2 c-sections. They both ended up being scheduled, but I went into full blown labor the night before. Let's just say you're not missing anything. I can take pain, but that really hurt. I went from every 20 minutes with fairly strong period cramps at 2:30am to full blown every 30 seconds while we were on the way to the hospital at 4:00am. I was already 6 cm dialated by the time we got there. They said that once you hit 6 cm the pain is as strong as it's going to be at that point with the labor pains. If I didn't need a c-section Caiden would of came VERY quick. With Connor, it was scheduled a little earlier so I didn't go into labor and I just went to the hospital after dropping Caiden off at school. That was weird. Definitely didn't feel like I was about to have a baby! It was so surreal even more this time because I didn't feel anything. Not that I wanted to feel the labor, but it would of made the whole situation more real, you know? You didn't miss out on the pain, but I know what you're saying! Part of me wanted to have a natural childbirth experience, but the bigger part of me would be scared to death!

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
I feel the same way. I had two babies and never felt a contraction! I look at them and sometimes wonder what giving birth is really like (even though i did give birth i mean more natural childbirth).
And i was thinking if my doctor is against VBAC's I could have all my kids without ever having a contraction. Weird!

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
oh thank goodness, i thought i was the only woman out there that had two babies and never felt one contraction. with baby #1, i was sent to labor and delivery for an emergency csection, baby was breech. and with baby #2 it was scheduled. so i never had one contraction, not even a braxton hicks and i never had to "push" either or any of that. but i can honestly say i dont feel cheated or anything. just happy to have two healthy children.

Re: Weird commentary on my pregnancy...
I have felt the same way SOOO many times. Maybe it's some psychological thing that we all have worked into us that makes us want to have more kids --- nature's way of wanting us to go through it all over again!
