weird ques about getting new front steps done
we have a high ranch with concrete front steps leading up to the house. we are going to want to get them redone at some point... some type of paver/stone look i imagine. but i just had a very rude awakening with a patio and walkway made of concrete being ripped up and it dawned on me... we have a retaining wall flower bed with brickwork on one side of the steps, and another smaller flower bed like that on the other side. in the retaining wall area, i planted quite a bit this spring-a lot of expensive smaller trees and such. so if i have new steps done, won't my flower beds become an utter disaster from the work being done? scratched/broken bricks and a lot of dead plants? is there any alternative to having my steps completely ripped up and redone? like, any kind of "stonework" look that they can give it, OVER my existing steps. i don't know if this actually exists or if i conjured it up in my head. lol. any opinions, advice etc is appreciated.

I don't think your planting would be destroyed - my ILs have a high ranch and they had a brand new paver walk up built without damage to the plants around it. When getting quotes this is definitely something I would get straight with the contractors though.

Re: weird ques about getting new front steps done
We had our walk and stairs done this year. They were made wider than before, so they had to get rid of a few things in the beds but they really didn't do much damage at all.
Last year we had siding put up and the same thing, they pretty much managed to step around all my plants.

my aunt had her steps for her high ranch done this year and her beds were trampled. there was no way around it though since they were right up to the steps.
she took out all the plants that she wanted to save first. thank goodness she did.

that's exactly what i'm afraid of... not to mention we spent thousands on the brickwork for the flower beds. here is what i am talking about... that's why i am posing the question, is there any way around destroying the existing steps and still getting a new look?
