Well maybe No IVF after all
I just was on IVF-Connections and someone who uses LI IVF and got the grant said the NYS grant paper work says the fees are ( in our gross income level) 35% of the cost plus anything not covered.
We cannot afford this, and the copays for all those visits
I really think Im gonna lose it .
What do we do now..move to freaking New Jersey, try to get better jobs? WAIT some more?
I just dont understand why this has to be so hard.

Don't give up yet Donna! Wait for the official word. Sometimes docs will waive co-pays etc. to make this happen. I'm praying for you!

Re: Well maybe No IVF after all
I am soooo sorry!!! YOu know that I am in the same boat as you. It kills me to just sit back as time goes by to try to figure out how we are going to fund it. I know we can finance it....but, I am not sure if we could do that just yet b/c we have so much going on in our personal life. DH first year salary S*u*c*k*s and I am doing temp work. Luckily, our finances are going to improve soon once my DH gets his upgrade in August. Fortunately, due to DH job, we are going to move to NJ by December if not sooner. I applied for a grant with InCIID (sadly, b/c I didnt work this year.....I think we met the requirements) I just sent the packet out today!
I am now looking into that study at Sirm. Have you considered that study?
So sorry

Re: Well maybe No IVF after all
I know how you feel, Donna. I have been waiting almost a year now for DH to get the Court Officer job so I can look into IVF. There is no way we could afford it on our own and our insurance didn't cover it.
I can only hope you find a solution.

So sorry
I did look into the SIRM study at length. I dont qualify. One fo the restrictions is cervical stenosis ( scarring of cervix) which I have badly.
I am sorry you are in the same boat. I feel bad now complaining when your right there with me.
Maybe you can get a Job once your in Jersey that is state mandated. The states mandates you must be covered for IVF if your employer qualifies. At least I hope you have that to look forward too. Im sorry!

And I hope you do too! Im so sorry
I dont see how the info I was givenis wrong, but I will keep my apointment for the consult and follow procedure till the "financial metting" and see what they say. Unfortunatly neither my husband and I were careful with our money in our early 20's and while we arent in much debt now our credit is very poor so we cant even finance any balance , we dont have any CC's or anything anyhow.
My mom used a lot of her savings to help us pay for our wedding, and she has offered to take some money out of her 401K for us, but not enough to cover it and I feel bad anyhow doing that to her, even though we would pay her back.
We thought of asking DH's brother who won the lottery and has a lot of money but my MIL said its not a good idea, he is not comfortable lending any kind of large money to anyone and it will just cause tension amongst us all.
One time a lady called in at work , and was upset we didnt cover her IVF( Im in Insurance field) and I thought "well, she could always move to NJ or something, I mean I WOULD FIND a way to do it" ...this was years ago and I swear I think about that all the time. I feel like Im being punished for thinking that, or being shown how hard it truly is.
Thanks everyone. I know Im an emotional mess and I appreciate all the good thoughts and wishes and Im sorry if I sound selfish, knowing some of you are in the same boat!

Re: Well maybe No IVF after all
Donna, honestly --- I just got a job application for Williams-Sonoma. I don't know what their benefits are like but I hope to find out.
I know at one time you were thinking of changing jobs - what about that? Can you look into changing your job? Maybe you can find a place that does cover IVF. And I know you want it NOW.... but if waiting a little means you would be covered, maybe that would make it wothwhile.
Also don't forget to look into programs and grants at other places. Columbia has a NYS grant, and low prices. SIRM has another grant. You are young enough (under 35) where you can be a candidate for many of these programs...
I am sure you have all the info but just in case...check out

http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/infertility/infertility_demonstration_program
http://cumc.columbia.edu/dept/obgyn/services/infertility/financial_information.html

And there's always Mexico, or Canada...

Re: Well maybe No IVF after all
dont give up. My primary insurance doesnt cover IF AT ALL, depsite that they have still been paying for all my appointments, bloods and sono. Find out if your insurance would cover that. A portion of the actual retrieval and transfer might not be soo bad. Dont give up, just wait until you get all the financials.
In the meantime, can you apply for 1 credit card. Maybe have someone with good credit cosign for you?

we tried to get a credit card a few months ago , we we turned down everywhere! We were approved for one for $250 MAX ( LOL LOL LOL ) at like 22% interest....yeah that will pay for like half a sonogram...HA HA
you are all right with what your saying though.
I know I will get some insurance coverage for sonos etc and I guess If the ACTUAL iVF itself ( transfer/retrieval and meds) were less then say 9K we might be able to do it. Im thinking high end 15K , which may be over thinking it.
Maybe Its my drama queen self trying to find a reason to be anxious?
Also Kara- I looked it all those. The NYS grant is the same no matter where you go. and I dont qualify for the SIRM study, nor the PCOS study ( since I dont have PCOS) but I SO appreciate any advice/help so THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe he hasn't even offered, knowing your situation. If I won the lottery, I would give you the money no questioned asked and you aren't even my family!

Re: Well maybe No IVF after all
I am really sorry about all of this. I wouldn't take your mom's money since her 401K will be hit with tons of penalties and taxes and be really hard to pay back. I am sorry your BIL doesn't give his family a loan- but I am sure he has his reasons. have you considered speaking to a credit councilor about improving your credit scores? You may be able to do something to improve your financial outlook. Hugs to you and DH. I hope that this meeting gives you much better claritiy. Why would they charge all of that money and call it a grant? Call your gov't officials on the phone. Tell them how unfair and awful it is that NYS does not require insurance to pay for this!!!

Re: Well maybe No IVF after all
Donna - have you checked clinical trials
gov clinical trials
I was applying for one at Univ of Penn, they were paying for everything (meds/IVF/bw/sonos) I was only responsible for the anesthesia and transportation. You also had to go to UPenn for all appts and ER And ET. That wasn't possible for me but maybe it could work for you.
I'm a firm believer in where there's a will theres a way so this will happen for you somehow.
Good luck!
