Well, our first night in the new house was not that successful.
Ava kept asking to go "home" to my mom's house She didn't go to bed until 1:30am and JT and I had to sleep on a mattress on her floor. My poor baby is so confused. Any suggestions on how I can help her assimilate to our new house? I'm so sad for her.

Re: Well, our first night in the new house was not that successful.
I would talk up the house A LOT - this is your new, big home Ava, with your very own big girl bed, how lucky you are! Etc, etc, etc. Also it may help to have your parents over to visit soon, and ask Ava to show them around her new house
Does she have her own bed? If not, this might be a GREAT time to take her to the store to pick out her very own big girl bed, which may help her transition to her room. And perhaps let her paint something on the walls? Or put stickers on the walls? Anything to have her engaged and involved in her new room.
And just time

Just give her time. When we moved OOS, all my son did (DD was only a year old when we moved) was ask about his "house" and he kept wanting to go 'home" or to go see his grandmother. Just try and be patient with her. she will be okay in no time!

Re: Well, our first night in the new house was not that successful.
See, we set up the crib in there yesterday thinking that it would help her get settled, but now that you mention it, maybe it's time to go to the store and pick out a bed for her. That's what helped her with potty training, I took her to the store and she picked her potty. Hmm, that's a good thought. I was selfishly hoping to keep her in the crib as long as possible, but this might be a good time to move on to a big girl bed She's spent tons of time at the house playing and she LOVES being there, but I guess she only thought of it as a place to play up until yesterday since she hadn't slept there yet. Ugg. My poor baby. I guess it's just a matter of time

Re: Well, our first night in the new house was not that successful.
We just recently moved. It was a little stressful b/c we went to a big girl bed- and we didn't have it when we moved in because my dad custom made it for us (he makes custom furniture, so we did a combo pottery barn kids/pottery barn set for her).
So we had 2 weeks of her sleeping w/ us in the new place- and maybe that helped b/c we were all together.
When the bed came in we made a huge big deal out of it- and the first night was pretty rough- but now she's loving it and loves her big girl room!

Awww I agree about getting her a big girl bed and maybe get a special book to read to her each night.

I think this is great advice...let her make it HER room. I bet she takes to that well.
Your post broke my heart....poor Ava. But it will all be fine very soon. You are very good about addressing her needs in the appropriate way...seriously...so I have no doubt that in a few days she'll be telling anyone that will listen (or not) about her new room.

Re: Well, our first night in the new house was not that successful.
We moved when Joseph was about the same age. He kept asking to go home too - even though he had a flat, big backyard, etc. He missed my sister's family (who lived next door).
It just takes time. One thing we did to distract him was to go through his toys to make sure that we didn't "forget" any. This obviously doesn't work if you used the move to dump toys. But finding new places to put his stuff was his favorite pastime for awhile.
