Well THIS will definitely get interesting
April 7, 2006 -- When the Mets travel to Washington next week, Jose Guillen will be waiting for Pedro Martinez. Guillen has now been hit five times by Martinez in his career, and he doesn't think it's a coincidence. After the Met ace plunked Guillen for the fourth time in the last 16 plate appearances, Washington's excitable right fielder charged the mound in the fifth inning of last night's 10-5 victory by the Mets and set off a benches-and-bullpen clearing confrontation.
"I know how to take care of it," Guillen warned.
When asked how, Guillen answered, "Don't worry about it."
After cooling off with a postgame shower, Guillen told two reporters that the Mets and Nationals are pretty much "sharing the same clubhouse" in ancient RFK Stadium.
"We walk in the same way," Guillen said with a grin.
The Nationals' No. 3 hitter was a lifetime .419 (13 of 31) with two homers and seven RBIs off Martinez entering this season. In the third inning, Guillen was hit in the lower back. In the fifth, he was hit in the left elbow.
"I want him to keep throwing inside," Guillen said. "Trust me.
"Now I want him more than any time. Now I really want to face him. There's no bad blood. But I think enough is enough.
"I've been hit so many times by him. We used to be friends. That relationship, I think, is over."
After Martinez plunked him for the second straight plate appearance, Guillen pointed his bat at Martinez like a sword and stalked toward the mound before plate umpire Ted Barrett corralled the hot-tempered hitter from behind.
Barrett grabbed Guillen just as he was trying to take off his helmet, and Met catcher Paul Lo Duca was also there for good measure.
No punches were thrown, and there wasn't even any pushing or shoving. Still, Guillen was yelling at Martinez.
Personally... I hope Pedro brushes this a$$hole back again. I love how Pedro is already in this loose cannon's mind. And we aren't even done with the 1st week of baseball.
Next week's series in Washington will be VERY interesting. Pedro is scheduled to pitch one of those games.
