Went to Fortunoff last night ...
as soon as I walked in, I got teary eyed I can't believe they're going out of business. I grew up with this store, as many of us did.
seeing liquidation signs everywhere was really sad.
We went there looking for jewelry... I have a big b-day coming up. I found several things that I loved, but even with 25% off, they were still
my Mom bought me a necklace from Petra's 'happy hearts' collection. at least I will have something unique to remember Fortunoff by

I know, I have been the same way
I have so many happy memories of shopping there. We even went down to the ourdoor store and remembered sitting in our perfect patio set when we were picking it out.
I just hate to lose such a unique store like that

Re: Went to Fortunoff last night ...
Though I know many thought it was overpriced, pretentious and nothing special, to me, Fortunoff was the ultimate gift store. I used to love going there and picking out jewelry I'd love to have and fantasizing about filling a kitchen full of gadgets and appliances. I remember how the store stood by itself with Orbach's across the parking lot. Registering there was a rite of passage albeit a pain in the butt with DH carrying our china choice to the flatware and stemware sections making sure they coordinated with each other. My MIL went there to find little hoop earrings for Abby. Now I am going to sound like an old fart when I tell her about this place that was filled with so many memories for me. Its very sentimental and bittersweet.

I remember like it was yesterday, registering for my china. It was my mother and I and we had such a great time. It was a very happy and emotional day for us, everytime I would scan a plate or something related to my china, my mother would get teary eyed and tell me how happy and proud she is of me. I always got butterflies in my stomach when I would walk into to Fortunoff,,especially during the holidays

Re: Went to Fortunoff last night ...
As a kid, I would whine and cry when my mom told me that we were going to Fortunoff's. I hated going there because will they didn't really have any toys. I remember walking through the store and my mom saying don't touch anything.
As an adult, I loved going to Fortunoff's. I enjoyed shopping for jewelry and gifts. When I had DSx2, I now became the parent telling them not too touch.
Fortunoff's will definitely be missed by my family. The Source will not be the same.

Fortunoff's will definitely be missed by my family. The Source will not be the same. it remains to be seen what will happen to that mall without the anchor store that it was built around.
there are a few stores in that mall that are great - Saks off 5th, Nordstrom Rack, ATL, cheesecake factory.
IMO, most of the stores in that mall can be found in other places near by or aren't strong enough to keep the mall alive

I was just at a shower where the bride was registered there
you just don't find that selection at any other 1 store
she even said as she opened the gifts how much she was going to miss it

Re: Went to Fortunoff last night ...
I worked there for a little over a year and I will always remember the crazy day after christmas sale when I had to work 5am to 6pm and people were lined up outside the store. I was working as a cashier in the christmas store and people were running around like mad, buying broken ornaments and it was insane.
I will miss walking around that store just looking.....even if we werent in the market to buy anything, and also going to the christmas store looking at all of the displays.
There is no where to go for that anymore.

Re: Went to Fortunoff last night ...
dh and i will miss the christmas store most...
we would stop in BEFORE HALLOWEEN and walk around it a couple times...
then before thanksgiving- and multiple times durring the christmas season....
other stores just dont setup the dept 56 villages or have the ornaments set up the same way, truely was its own... especially with Treasure Island being out of business- which still didnt compare

Re: Went to Fortunoff last night ...
I will miss the store, I am very sad it is closing. I didn"t really shop there for home items, but loved the Christmas store. I worked there for a holiday season giftwrapping, a really long time ago.
I have been with DH for 17 years, from the first year we were together, we would go to the Fortunoff Christmas store, look at all the decorations and get a ornament with our names on it and then go out to dinner.
I am so sad we won't be doing this at Christmas anymore.

Re: Went to Fortunoff last night ...
Years ago I used to work for a catering company and did LOTS of parties for the Fortunoff family - both in the store and in their homes. I'm sorry - but they were AWFUL. I loathed working parties for those people. Nice store though.

Re: Went to Fortunoff last night ...
Went there today and was totally disappointed...very sad they were closing but it was a MAD HOUSE, pushing, arguing, I saw a really nice rug and when I took it to the counter she said it was 45.00 for a bathroom mat??? there were NO DEALS and everything now is a waste...sorry to see the store go though
