Darn I wanted to go to that but had to work. Any good tips you learned? The woman was really good, she teaches at Winthrop too she is an RN and lactation nurse. Pretty much she said to be firm if you are breastfeeding at the hospital and tell them NOTHING in the mouth this is a breast feeding baby- NO bottle NO binky NOTHING, otherwise the baby will not latch on. she said be firm and we have that right. also you have to feed every 2 to 3 hours so request for the baby to be in the room with you or demand when the baby cries it is to be brought to you. workplace by law they have to provide a sanitary place for you to pump.
when introducing the baby to the nipple massage your chest downward to the nipple first and then when you put the baby on your nipple rub its nose and lips and as soon as the baby opens BAM- hard you have to be aggressive ( not hurt them like burping) and push their face onto your breast once they latch then move baby so its not suffocating.
she rec the Medela pump said its one of the best. you should breast feed for over a year its liquid gold for you and the baby- for you it prevents ostheoporosis, diabetes and breast cancer for the baby crohns disease she said there are sooooooo many benefits.

Re: Went today to BRU for the breastfeeding seminar
didnt want to lose that info my computer craps out sometimes . lets see what else oh first 2 weeks wake baby up every 2 to 3 hours for feeding after 2 weeks belly gets a lil bigger so they can sleep that extra hour or 2. always alt. chest so you dont get soar or engorgement. let the baby keep eating even if over 15 minutes on 1 nipple, pump the other one then. oh the other thing she said too was when baby is 3 or 4 months DO NOT give them solid foods continue the milk.

Re: Went today to BRU for the breastfeeding seminar
That all sounds like excellent advice. You should make a card to put in the babies little incubator that says:
NO BOTTLES NO PACIFERS BREASTFED ONLY
I remember when I was in the hospital my first night when I told them he was only to have the breast they told me they would only bring him to me twice during the night.( they seemed annoyed) At first I was pizzed, till the first time I heard him cry, they brought him to me whenever he was hungry, he was loud

Re: Went today to BRU for the breastfeeding seminar
Hehe the no pacifier rule is so funny to me now. I had the same plan in mind, and had the baby in my room so I could nurse immediately on demand. The second night I begged for a pacifier after nursing her for over an hour straight. I knew she had a good latch at that point, and just wanted to keep sucking for comfort so the pacifier would be fine... Its been 16.5 months and we are still nursing so I guess that was ok!
For those of you planning to breastfeed, make sure you bookmark this site: http://www.kellymom.com/ It has great advice!!!

what time were you there?? I was at the 1pm seminar. I missed the first one, and it was too crowded, so I waited around for the 1 pm.
