In Manhattan, we are big fans of the Central Park Zoo, it is smaller than the Bronx, but I think for toddlers it is better

Re: We're coming to NY.....help with things to do
I live in Manhattan. There are plenty of things to do. there are a bunch of playgrounds. DD loves just running on the Great Lawn/Sheeps Meadow. We do go to the Museums- Natural History and sometimes Childrens. There are also story times at the local Barnes and Nobles. The JCC near us has open space throughout March.
There are tons of shows for kids- there is even a Pinkalicious play/ Funky Monkeys/ etc... that play regularly for about $15-$20 per ticket.
A pet store is always fun. The one in Union Square often has animals for kids to pet- like rabbits.
There is a club, BLVD that has a daytime "baby disco" once a month.
Most restaurants uptown are child friendly. You can go to Landmark in the Time Warner Center- have a good meal and its really child friendly. There is also a Borders there with a decent kids section.
