Were you ever suspended from school? If so, why? Was it fair?

In my high school, they had in-school suspension and out of school suspension.

I never had either.

The worst I ever had was lunch detention, for cutting gym once, or for chewing gum.

Ha, yes!

i was suspended in 12th grade for wearing a Metallica 'Metal up your Azz' shirt. They didn't even give me the option of changing into my gym shirt or anything..just suspended me.

3 DAYS!!

my mom wasn't mad or anything because she realized it was stupid. So i had 3 free days off

I went to a Catholic High School.

Did not matter if it was fair since it was a private school if you didn't like it the door was open for you to leave at anytime....(this was honestly how they presented it).

I never was suspended but I did have BS detentions...too much makeup, earrings too big. None of it in the handbook--was not appreciated when I pointed that out

I work in a NYC public school now as a counselor and my school is very fair and by the book w/their detentions.

Hmmmmm...... never suspended.. no detention either. But I was late for art class once and this psycho Art teacher, a nun, told me and the 3 other girls that since we missed the opening part of the class where they said a prayer, we couldn't participate and she went on to FAIL each one of us for that trimester. Art was considered a major subject too and it killed my grade point average. Needless to say, my parents got involved with the principal and it got messy. The outcome was that she raised our grades to where they should have been, but to this day, it seriously irks me that you can get graded on ART.

Oh, and I cursed out my french teacher, an old nun, on my oral part of the French Regents exam. I didn't think she heard me until I was walking out and she told me God will still bless me even though I use words like that.

I got into a fight with a guy in my history class in 7th grade.

He wound up slapping me across my face and I threw him over a desk, then threw the desk on him.

Apparently that retaliation was grounds to give me ISS for 2 days while the jerk got a week of suspension.

Nope. I had detention in ms for talking in class and not doing HW, but we only had lunch detention. In hs, we had after school detention and I had it for stupid uniform infractions.

Maybe I had detention once or twice but I can't remember why. Or maybe I wanted to be a bad azz but could never pull it off.

Oh yes. I was ALwAYS late. Got ISS for that a few times. Got ISS for smoking in the bathroom, and then again on school grounds. Got it once for not going to detention. But that detention was bs. The teacher gave me detention because my bff cut class. he was a douche like that. A few years later I saw him in a bar, he bought me a drink because I told him I still thought it was a bs move.

Yeah I got ISS suspensions for eating M&Ms in Home Ec class. Turns out the teacher needed it that day for cookies we were making. . I had also cut class that same week, so they gave me ISS for those two actions in a week.

I had detentions throughout high school. I cut class quite a bit.

Yes, I was. I didn't think it was fair at the time.. but hindsight is 20/20.

ETA: I went to my Latin teacher and told him I was skipping class because I had something more compelling to do - as in go to the beach.

Yes I had it. It was completely fair and it was worth it

Many times, had a very rough childhood and things were awful at home, I even was expelled and had to attend a behavioral school. People can certainly turn their lives around though...

ETA: Why? Many things
Smoking, fighting, using alcohol on the school bus and giving to my friends, cutting class for a whole month...

The punishments definitely fit the crime...

I went to a really small, really strict Catholic school. I got suspended lots of times for various ridiculous things (writing the words to a rock song in my notebook being one of them ), some things that were legit (smoking when I was supposed to be at Mass), and they finally expelled me when I got pregnant in 11th grade

I had ISS for one day in 8th grade because of a fist fight.

Never in high school. I did have detention A LOT but for the dumbest things... like being 10 seconds late for class, talking/giggling in class, or passing a note in class.

Remember those 'fun snaps' that you could buy from the ice cream man, or around 4th of July, throw them on the ground and they snap/explode??

Well, I threw a bunch of them at my science teacher in 8th grade as he walked down the aisle during lab. It's still just as funny looking back on it.

I got ISS in 10th grade for cutting too many classes. I quickly learned that I could just forge my mom's signature on a note and I got away with cutting classes for the rest of HS.

i was only suspended for 1 day tho... my guidance counselor was cool...

I was a goody-two-shoes. No detention, no suspensions. I did cut gym frequently, but always with a "legit" excuse.
