Re: Were you tested for Fragile X as part of pre-natal testing ?
I did all my prenatal testing prior to getting pregnant. However, I did test in the "gray" zone for Fragile X so they had my husband come in and get tested as well. He tested negative and we met with the genetic counselor to just review all of the results and go over our family history.
My sister was tested for all of her genetic tests after she found out she was pregnant and she went through the same exact thing that I did with the same results

When they I did my genetic testing "Fragile X" came up...not sure what zone I was. I did the ultrascreen and blood work, so far everything is normal. It just means that we are carriers of it, doesn't mean that the baby will have but might pas it on to future generations.

This might be a dumb question but what is Fragile X?
Not a dumb question at all...Until about a week ago I had never even heard of it...According to my RE's office it is slowly becoming mainstream as part of pre-natal testing as it the most common form of inherited mental retardation....
Here is one definition :
What is Fragile X syndrome? Fragile X syndrome is the most common form of inherited intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs). Fragile X happens when there is a change, or mutation, in a single gene called the Fragile X Mental Retardation 1 (FMR1) gene. This gene normally makes a protein the body needs for the brain to develop. But when there is a change in this gene, the body makes only a little bit or none of the protein, which can cause the symptoms of Fragile X.
Fragile X is inherited, which means it is passed down from parents to children. Parents can have children with Fragile X even if the parents do not have Fragile X themselves. The changes in the gene can become more serious when passed from parent to child.

I was tested to see if I was a carrier during the big round of bloodwork in the beginning.
My amnio also tested for Fragile X
