Westminster Weekend Dog Show - Nassau Coliseum
Westminster Weekend Dog Shows
This February, the Westminster Weekend Dog Shows will be hosting four days of dog-gone, family-friendly fun, at Long Island?s own Nassau Coliseum. The 4-day event, featuring 30 Specialty Dog Shows, 3 Group Shows and All-Breed Obedience & Rally Trials runs from Thursday, Feb. 11 through Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010.
This annual event occurs the weekend before the coveted Westminster Kennel Club show at Madison Square Garden, hence the name: The Westminster Weekend Dog Shows and Garden Specialty Association (GSA). This event is being held for the first time on Long Island, and offers the area?s best showcase of pedigree dogs, vendors and family fun since 2001.
This year?s show features activities and shopping for dog lovers of all ages. Come see top dogs from around the country on their way to Westminster, shown on over 16,000 sq. ft. of fresh sod from LI's own Delea Sod Farms. Get to know the breeds and breeders, enjoy fun demonstrations, visit with pet rescue organizations and get free information about pet care, dogs & dog shows.
Admission is $12 per person each day; $2 off for seniors; $8 for children (ages 12-6) and children under 6 are FREE.

None of the show dogs are altered. Could you imagine one of them getting knocked up by a mutt? Say it ain't so! 
They should have more dog-friendly events on Long Island.

I never thought of that aspect of it! Good point. You think that's the reason though? I guess it's part of it.

It was just a thought of mine but that might be part of it. We all know how many crap dog owners there are out there too. Speaking of crap, how many of those people might not pick up after them - since the place is sodded too! You get a bunch of snappish, barky, aggressive dogs together in one closed area... Could be disaster.

Usually the reason you can't bring your own dogs is a space issue, there just isn't enough for all the entered dogs and then hundreds of others. Most outdoor shows you can bring your dogs to walk around with but the indoor ones have space limitations. I was going to enter this show but I just don't think he's ready yet.
