WH not consulting anyone on Executive Orders
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trumps-flashy-executive-actions-could-run-aground-234200?utm_source=huffingtonpost.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=pubexchange
President Donald Trump’s team made little effort to consult with federal agency lawyers or lawmakers as they churned out executive actions this week, stoking fears the White House is creating the appearance of real momentum with flawed orders that might be unworkable, unenforceable or even illegal.
The White House didn’t ask State Department experts to review Trump’s memorandum on the Keystone XL pipeline, even though the company that wants to build the pipeline is suing the U.S. for $15 billion, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Defense Secretary James Mattis and CIA Director Mike Pompeo were “blindsided” by a draft order that would require agencies to reconsider using interrogation techniques that are currently banned as torture, according to sources with knowledge of their thinking.
Just a small circle of officials at the Department of Health and Human Services knew about the executive action starting to unwind Obamacare, and they got a heads-up only the night before it was released. Key members of Congress weren’t consulted either, according to several members. And at a conference in Philadelphia, GOP legislators say they had no idea whether some of the executive orders would contrast with existing laws — because they hadn't reviewed them.
The breakneck pace of Trump’s executive actions might please his supporters, but critics are questioning whether the documents are being rushed through without the necessary review from agency experts and lawmakers who will bear the burden of actually carrying them out. For example, there are legal questions on how the country can force companies building pipelines to use materials manufactured domestically, which might not be available or which could violate trade treaty obligations. There’s also the question of whether the federal government can take billions from cities who don’t comply with immigration enforcement actions: Legal experts said it was unclear.
“You want to make sure when you’re dealing with high stakes, important issues you’re getting the best information from the breadth of expertise that exists in government,” said Max Stier, president of the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan nonprofit that supports the civil service. “You don’t know what you don’t know.”
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
He's desperately doing everything he can (even if it's illegal, immoral, or impossible) just to have his supporters like him. He's churning out Executive Orders faster than they can type them out for him. I don't think very many of them will actually happen (the wall, forcing companies to use American steel, waterboarding, barring some countries from immigrating to the US, etc), and he's going to spin into a serious depression spiral in a few months when he can't make up any more lies to make people like him anymore. If he gets into a serious spiral, it's going to be very scary, IMO. If we think he's unstable now, just imagine if Congress blocks most of his plans, his approval rating is in the teens, and all of the media is calling him out on a constant basis.

In reality he isn't keeping his promises. He's signing all of these executive orders and they will end up not getting accomplished and it'll be someone else's fault. He isn't spending the time to actually review and research what the job entails.

But, the thing is, from his supporters standpoint, he is keeping his promises. They hear "We are building that wall and I signed an order for it" and that's it. From what I was reading some of the orders he can implement like the stopping all refugee's from a certain area (Muslim ban) but something like the wall, he can't build it without congress giving the money. So, at least there are some checks and balances. But again, his supporters see he is doing what he said, that's all they need to hear.

It will be scary. I totally agree!! He can't even let go of the fact he lost the popular vote, he's whining like a child DAILY about it. Can you imagine if his orders get blocked???..............which in all reality, many will. He's going to fly off the handle. His ego cannot handle being told no.
I don't think he will be able to keep himself in check for 4 years and I honestly think he's going to be removed. He's just not stable. The job of a president is 24/7, it's met with resistance daily, there will ALWAYS be people that don't agree with or like you, and you literally hold the fate of millions in your hands. He is going to crack and when he does, it's going to be ugly.

WH not consulting anyone on Executive Orders
A good number of his supporters have no idea how government works, therefore they think these executive orders are great. In their eyes, he is doing everything he said he would do in the first week.
Sadly, some of the things are actually happening. I read about someone who had been offered an IRS job and had already quit their previous job, only to get an email last night saying that because of the federal hiring freeze, they could not give him the job. Now, what is this poor guy supposed to do?
I also read that refugees that have already gone through 2 years of vetting and were all set to come here are now being delayed because of the executive order.
This sh*t is not making america great.

Re: WH not consulting anyone on Executive Orders
The waterboarding issue has been interesting for me. It's illegal. James Mattis (I think it was him) said something like "a pack of smokes is a better way to get terrorists to talk." And he is someone who has knowledge and experience in this area, unlike the five time draft dodger.
So it makes zero sense to me that Trump has raised it as a tactic, especially when he turns around and says he knows his people disagree and he will respect their input. During the Bush admin they got people to do it, and those people ended up needing lawyers anyway.
