What age for first dentist visit?

At what age did your DC first go to the dentist? Now that DD 2 1/2 has a mouth full of teeth I was wondering when should I first take her to the dentist??

Took her at 2 to count them and get her used to it. Took her again this year at 4. They tried to clean them.. she didn't let them. Still did a count and checked her out. She let them brush her teeth but that was all.

ironically she's been RELIGIOUS about brushing since that visit!

Took both kids at 1yo. Check out the ADA recommendation:

It's a nightmare. My son at 4 yo finally stopped crying. My son also had 2 cavities....not because he ate sweets or didn't brush his teeth. He is an open mouth sleeper. Glad we took him early.

We are going for DD's first visit in April. She will be 17 months.

We took DS right before his 2nd b-day.

I think my DD was just about 2 when we took her. My uncle is our dentist so we figured we might as well start her early since we knew she would already be comfortable with him. She goes every year for a check up.

Start taking him at 2.5 to a pediatric dentist and go every 6 months for a cleaning/checkup.

took them both together - DD was 3yrs and DS was 2yrs...DD has been good since day 1 ... the last visit for DS at 3.5yrs was the first time he didnt hysterical cry...i always wonder if it was bec DD was a little older she understood it better!

But i will prob bring DD (#3) who is 1 yr now when she is two!

I took both of my kids to the dentist starting at age 2. The first time I took them was before their first appointments with me for my visit so they could see exactly what would happen and be prepared. My kids like for me to sit in the chair and they sit on my lap. I went through what would happen before the appointment, the dentist counts your teeth, then takes a special toothbrush and a mirror to brush your teeth. You spit into a bowl. My kids like that they can pick their tooth paste flavor (chocolate, cookie, bubblegum). They love the prize box too. ETA: They go every 6 months for cleanings.

My pediatrician recommended the first dentist visit at 3

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but how do they handle kids that are hysterical?

I want to take DD soon but I know she is going to have a fit and won't open her mouth. Its a nightmare just letting the Dr look in her ears lately.

I did it at 2.5 years. I took my daughter at 1 and she wouldn't have it so I waited until she was a little bigger to understand what was happening.

Def 2, if you have a good dentist they will let them "ride"on the chair and just get used to going. Most of their teeth are in by then and should be checked. They also gave DC a cute brush and explained how to brush twice a day-which we already do. GL!
