What age is crawling supposed to start?
When I give DD "tummy time" she pushes herself with her arms and legs (like modified crawling, her head is up, and her arms and legs move, but she stays on her tummy and pulls and pushes herself) from one end of the play mat to the other. It's funny to watch her try to get coordinated. She's 6 weeks old, when can I expect her to start crawling so I know when to give her more space and start moving the furniture. I didn't expect this for a bit.

Re: What age is crawling supposed to start?
some babies crawl at 5 months some much later and some never. My doctor doesnt even consider crawling a milestone. But i would start watching about 6 months or so.
sound like your lil one will be doing it much earlier.

Re: What age is crawling supposed to start?
My DD just started to crawl at 8 months. She does more of an "army crawl" but she is really fast and gets across the room quickly. I think all babies are different, but yours may crawl on the early side.

Re: What age is crawling supposed to start?
I think 7-10 months is the average, but as a PP noted, some babies never crawl, just go straight to cruising and walking.

Re: What age is crawling supposed to start?
My DD did the army crawl only up until a few weeks ago (10 months). She could crawl on her knees but chose the army crawl for her mode of transportation. The army crawl started at about the 8 month mark

Re: What age is crawling supposed to start?
Some babies crawl at 5/6 months, others a year, other never. My ped said it isn't really a milestone these days as many kids skip it altogether.

Re: What age is crawling supposed to start?
Wow, it's like an army crawl, so I guess her attempts are a little early - I'm still a little impressed, it's still motor coordination whether it's a milestone or not. I gotta get her in gymnastics as soon as they allow - we may have a little champ on our hands
