What am I doing wrong - sleeping through the night
My DD is almost 7 weeks and she is up every 2 hours. I keep reading that others have their DC sleeping 7 hour stretches. Is she just a bad sleeper?
Any thoughts/words of wisdom?
ETA if I could walk her in the stroller at night I think she would sleep 8 hours! I think she just hates laying down in the crib

Re: What am I doing wrong - sleeping through the night
DS is only 10 days old but we figured out that he wouldn't sleep at all if he was flat on his back (even the nurses at the hospital had the babies on an incline).
we got him a sleep positioner and he sleeps great now!

IMO,,,you cant make a baby a "good" sleeper. Some babies are good sleepers and some arent. Some babies are fussy and some arent....
My son didnt sleep through the night until he was probably around 7 months...My DD has been sleeping through the night since she was 6 weeks or so.I didn't do anything different with her than I did with him.
I know it's hard getting up..but hopefully soon you will get longer stretches

Re: What am I doing wrong - sleeping through the night
my DS is almost 11 weeks and he's nowhere near sleeping through the night!
we put him to bed at around 9pm after a bath and bottle and he's up at like 1-2am, 4-5am, and then again at 6-7am. we're lucky when it's only twice a night.
i can't wait until he sleeps longer stretches, but there's nothing i can do about it until he's ready

7 weeks is too young to be expecting a baby to sleep through the night. DD didn't do it until she was almost 10 months old.

That is too young to expect a baby to sleep through the night IMO.
Some babies do sleep great from the beginning. Some don't.
The only thing I can say is to be consistent with a bedtime routine from the beginning and that will make your life easier down the road.

I didn't think she would, but I keep reading all these posts where others have their DC sleeping through the night. A few friends had their DC also. I just hope that the 2 hours becomes longer, b/c it is up at 1 for example, feed, burp, back down by 1:30-1:45 up by 3, so I feel like I am only sleeping mabye 30-45 min. by the time I fall asleep

Re: What am I doing wrong - sleeping through the night
Are you BFing? Most BF babies take longer to sleep longer streatches.
I also dreamfed DD- which helped to get a longer chunk of time for me to sleep. Basically, I'd put her down to sleep, then I'd feed her right before I went to bed (usually about 10, which was about 2 hours after she went down and an hour before she'd normally wake to be fed again).
She was in a twilight type sleep while I fed her and would usually just go right back to dee[p sleep for a few hours after.

I am BF, I would be scared to wake her earlier than 2 hours, b/c it seems consistent that even with a good feed she needs to eat again 2 hours later. Maybe when she get's heavier she will last longer between feedings.

Hmmm - ok - that was my only piece of advice at that age. Sorry.
OOH - wait - do you use the Miracle Blanket to swaddle?

Re: What am I doing wrong - sleeping through the night
I agree with everyone else - depends on the baby! My newest DS has been sleeping through the night from just 5 weeks or so. He also has been a belly sleeper from the beginning too. He hated being swaddled and hated being on his back. Just give it a little more time!

yes, that and the swaddle me, we alternate. The miracle blanket is harder to put her back in after a diaper change.

I didn't BF so I really have no clue. But I have read on here about giving formula for the last bottle at night since it's a little heavier. Maybe that would work?
Sorry I have no other advice - it will get better soon!

My DD didn't sleep through the night until she was 8 months. Sorry. This was the only thing that helped her sleep at least 5 hours during the day and it saved me.
It rocked her back and forth and I LOVED IT!!! Image Attachment(s):

Re: What am I doing wrong - sleeping through the night
my DD is almost 8 months and still not sleeping through the night. We found in the beginning to make sure we did the same routine every night (bath, some quiet time in our bedroom with the lights down really low, then bottle and bed). In the middle of the night when she would wake up we wouldn't even turn on the lights, we'd feed her in the dark in the glider in her room. And unless her diaper felt wet we wouldn't even take her out of the swaddle when she woke up. Cause as soon as we would unwrap her she would be wide awake.

My son is almost 6 months and doesn't sleep through the night yet. You're not doing anything wrong - every baby is different and at 7wks sounds about right that she's up every 2 hrs if he's BF.

See now this is my theory - I LOVE Ryan to death, but naturally not a great sleeper (although still a happy munchkin by day). But if there's truly a god, my next child will sleep through the night early on like your DD

Re: What am I doing wrong - sleeping through the night
My son didn't start sleeping through the night until he was three months old, which is only last week! He started sleeping longer stretches when he started eating more at night and swaddling helps too.
It will happen.

Re: What am I doing wrong - sleeping through the night
As she gets older she will definitely go longer at night. i can totally relate to feeling like you are only sleeping 30-45 minutes and it is really tough! babies change their routines so fast and once you think they are sleeping good they hit a growth spurt and it completely regresses again!
i am by no means an expert with sleeping but here are some things that worked for me with DD was around that age.
-doing the all the night feedings in the dark with no talking.
-during the day the feedings would be in the living room, in bright light, and i would talk
-changing her diaper before i fed her in the middle of the night
-i've heard the dream feed works great but i never did it.
-my dd hated the swaddle but i know others who swore by it!
i also think you can try putting the pacifier in instead of one of the feedings. she might use the nursing as a means of comfort. When DD was that age she definitely nursed for comfort and it was the only way i could get her to sleep. then i started with the pacifier and that did help.
good luck
