What am I doing wrong??? Sleep related - please come in
Jack goes to bed usually between 6-6:30.
He wakes normally anywhere between 5:30-6:15
This has been getting earlier and earlier now. This morning he woke up at 4 freaking 45 in the morning. I let him cry and yell for an hour then finally went in to get him.
He did go to bed a little later last night (7ish) but that really can't be the problem can it?
Let me also say - I know that he is sleeping a really long amount of time - but - I just wish he would sleep later. If I could get him to sleep from 7-7 I would be thrilled. Even 7-6:30. I am soooo not a morning person and cannot fathom being up at 5am. But, it seems that the trend is the later I put him to bed - the EARLIER he wakes up.
PLEASE HELP because I am at my wits end!
I did buy blackout shades and DH will put them up on Thursday when he is off.
ETA: He's 15 months!

Diana.... what are his nap schedules (I know you were having probs with this)?
I find that if I allow Kristina to nap in the afternoon past 5:30 she's not going to sleep anywhere earlier than 830 or 9!
Usually she just stays awake though.

I pushed his nap to later in the day like the girls recommended - so now he naps from 12-1:30

Maybe it is time to eliminate a day time nap or shorten it? I know G slept way better once we changed his daytime sleeping schedule about a month or 2 ago.

Well, I will say that when DD is overtired, she sleeps horribly that night. Sounds like he went to bed late last night, right? Was he overtired when he went to bed?

Is there any way that you can introduce another nap into his day later in the afternoon - even a quickie 15-30 minute nap? That would help him to go down later maybe keeping him asleep a little bit later.

Re: What am I doing wrong??? Sleep related - please come in
Lucas goes through this every once in a while. And I have yet to find an answer to it but so far he always goes back to the regular schedule after a brief while.
He goes to bed by 7:00/7:30 (only because we get home later from daycare)
Wakes at 6:00am on the weekdays and usually around 7:00am on the weekends (we wake him on weekdays to get out of the house on time so 6:30/7am is closer to what it should normally be)
At daycare he takes a 1 hour nap and at home (weekends and days off) he takes a 2 - 3 hour nap each day.
Does Jack have a lovey and/or blanket?
Lucas used to wake at 5am a while back but when I introduced him to his teddy bear....I became the third wheel and he started sleeping longer. I hear him wake but he grabs something (teddy or balnket) and goes back down after a few short words to them.

The only thing is that I have become the third wheel...at night after we are finished reading he points to his crib - hugs his bear so hard and looks at me like "leave" - then has a short conversation with him

Re: What am I doing wrong??? Sleep related - please come in
I do think that part of the problem is that his naps aren't long enough - he still wakes up cranky so I know he's tired.
Ang - he has two Elmo's and a Cookie Monster in his crib - he throws them out and slams them down when he's mad at me - so loving for them I can try giving him a lovey I guess. I'll try anything at this point!

Do you have music playing in his room or any kind of white noise when he naps?

Do you feed him before he naps? I find that if Lucas has his yogurt and apple sauce before his nap he sleeps pretty solid...then eats a big lunch when he wakes.

He has a white noise machine in his room.
He eats lunch RIGHT before his nap - then goes up.

Re: What am I doing wrong??? Sleep related - please come in
DS is 16 months
He sleeps from 7 pm - 6:30 ish am
He just eliminated his afternoon nap
His morning nap is 11:00 - 12:30 ish
He sleeps with two little blankies--I hear him talking to himself betwen 4 - 5 am and then he goes back to sleep
Maybe Jack is teething?

He is teething really really badly. His hand is in his mouth all day long. I have been giving him motrin before bed but I'm sure that is long gone by 5am.

It might be a phase---Chris woke up and cried a few nights here and there and I just dealt with it since he was teething--I hope it stops soon though----it is annoying!!!

And he doesn't use any binkies right? What about putting something in there that he can chomp on.... U know maybe like a gum massager or something?

I'm thinking it's a phase. This happened once or twice to us, but then as quickly as it started, Thomas went back to regular routine.
