I make my own crust because I like the way it tastes and I can completely control what goes in it. BUT my SIL uses store bought crust (from a box) and it tastes just fine!

I like a variety of apples for my crisps and pies. I use a mix of Granny Smith, Mutsu (my favorite)and MacIntosh because I think the flavors and textures work nicely together. I would NEVER do a pie of all Macs because they really get mushy when baked. I often cut up a pear and toss that in too!

for apple pie I use Granny Smith, if I am making an apple crisp, then I use al kinds.

I have made my own crust - but I now make my apple pie with a crumb topping so I buy the bottom crust. I use the Pillsbury unroll-and-fill pie crusts - its in the Refrigerated section in a red box.

I use Pillsbury or make my own.

I use a few granny smith plus a mix of others. It is best with a variety. but you need tart apples- or a mix so that it doesn't get mushy.

I always use a mix of sweet and tart apples. And I use a lot of apples in one pie!!

As for crust, it depends. I usually make my own, but I have been time pressed before and just used a refrigerated roll-out one. They're ok, but I like to roll mine even thinner and bigger for my pie dishes!
