What are my chances being delivered by an attendant/resident in LIJ (Dr. Cohen girls)

I heard he delivers all of his scheduled c-sections but as for vaginal delivery, he has a team of OBs that are around on call. I remember him telling me this in the beginning but didn't start freaking out about it until now bc I am scared of not knowing who will deliver me!
I guess I'm losing faith in this practice lately. Constantly reminding them about test results and chart info. Then last week I had a scare and called the emergency line hoping to speak to Dr. C.. It was at 11am on a Saturday and some random resident calls back just telling me to go to L&D. Okay fine but I never got a follow up call from Dr. C and I saw them Monday and they had no record. I was warned about how hands off he is but like I said, now that I am in my last few weeks, I'm freaking out that I will be alone with unfamiliar faces at birth.
Is it crazy to try and switch practices at 32weeks? Or should I just deal with the fact that I knew this from the start and should have never bothered with them. Ugh lessons learned too late.

When I was in labor with dd I was there for like 40 hours and he popped in and out. Ended up needing an emerg c and he was there and did it. This time around I had a scheduled c.
I will say I hear u on how laid back they are and sometikes it bothered me too esp when I was nervous. But he seems to know what he is doing and was very reassuring throughout my planned c bc I was very nervous and really wanted a vbac. When I was in the hospital the anesthesiologist met with me and I just didn't get a good vibe and I told dr c and he got a different one assigned to me. So he's good about stuff like that.
That being said I know him and many other practices do cross cover for each other esp at lij. So I don't know if changing to someone else would be any better at this point. Good luck with whatever U decide.

There is always a chance that your regular Dr will not deliver you. even in the big practices it could be another Dr that you may have seen once or twice. If its a solo then it would either be a Dr they cover for each other or the on duty Dr.

It doesn't matter what hospital it just is what it is.

As for changing practices at 32 weeks.....most Drs will not take you. Unless you moved etc. I switched at 20 weeks and even then many Drs would not take me.

Ita. I'm now 0 for 2 delivering and there are 4 doctors with the practice. The first was a vaginal but it was a Sunday so the on call doctor did it and honestly I only saw him once or twice before the very end when i couldn't have cared less who was standing there. This time I was preterm and it was a Sunday night and my doctor was going of and another is never heard of came on so that's who I saw. She made a really tough call to deliver me and I had total trust in her. She stood holding my hands through my spinal and was amazing. She probably saved my daughter's life by getting her out immediately. I'm sure not every in on the island is prefect but it's their job and they will take the best cate of you whether you're their patient or not. I would try not to worry too muchChat Icon

I honestly don't want to switch :/ I think I'm just having third tri jitters about not being in control and knowing what's going to happen. I do like him and love the fact that they are all so non chalant bc the lack of worrying is what got me through this pregnancy. I'm just scared seeing all of these girls with responsive OBs and I haven't had that yet. I just hope delivery will be different and I'll have that support.

This far into the pregnancy you might not be able to switch. I can tell you though that you CAN tell them you don't want a resident in the room. I had a resident (1st year, 1st day) come in the room. I mentioned that I didn't want them there and never saw her again.

I know Dr Cohen works with a lot of doctors from other practices so you kind of have to weigh the likely hood. I considered using one of his colleagues at another practice who was really sweet but only delivered his scheduled csection patients. I knew due to my history I wouldn't make it to my csection date so that eliminated that.

I know Dr Scarantino is good when he was with Winthrop but don't really know about the others. The process will be so quick you won't think about it.

Good luck

Crashing here, but I had a terrible experience with Dr. Cohen. HIGHLY unlikely he will deliver you. I was in the hospital for 4 days (48 hour induction then 2 days postpartum and never saw him once. I called his office the day I got home to ask a question and got a call back from a random (mean) doctor. Highly recommend switching. I HATED the dr that delivered DD1 and didn't heal properly from the stitches. FM me if you want more info.

I dont see Dr.Cohen, but I had concerns when I was seeing my Ob/Gyn group. I decided I wanted to change, everyone told me no one would take me, well I called around and stated my case, I had a few drs give me appointment. Well the first one I met with I love and he promised me to be there and he was. I was 37 weeks pregnant at that point. All I can say is stick with your heart, If you heart if there then tough it out. If not then leave. In the end I am so glad that I followed my heart. Good Luck!!

Really your personal OB doesn't do much during your delivery process even if they are there. I happened to be delivered by my OB (b/c she was on call that night) and saw her for maybe 30 minutes max (most of it in a pain induced haze), while I pushed out my baby. A resident stitched me up aftewards and she was gone. After that didn't see her again till 6 weeks PP check. The more important part of the whole thing is the labor nurses and postpartum nurses. Those are the people you will really be dealing with.

crashing bc I just had my first appointment at Dr C office last week, saw NP wendy, was not a fan, she was a bit too "flighty" for me, she was all over the place and never let me answer a question. I wanted to bring her up to date with what Im going through. I told the front desk person, she said "yes that happens with Wendy"
I opted for his office bc I know he returns calls, my last gyn office never did
