What are some good pregnancy books?
I'm gonna go to Borders today-
Besides What to Expect When You're Expecting, what are some others?
Thanks!

I like Your Pregnancy: Week by Week. It gives you bite size information and I liked that I could read just a small section each day I graduated to a new week. I also found it less 'alarmist' than What to Expect.
Congrats!!

Re: What are some good pregnancy books?
I took a few regular books out of the library, but the one book I bought so far is this:
The Pregnancy Journal
It actually tells you day by day what is happening with your LO! DH and I read it together every night and we love hearing things like how yesterday our baby's ears were fully formed. As much as we all talk about worrying and wondering if everything is going on in there the way it's supposed to, reading every single day what's going on actually seems to help a bit.
I got it at Target.
There's another book I want to get from B&N that's more of a "frugal mom" preparing for baby book that talks about getting the safest items without wasting a lot of money. I started reading it when I was there last time and it had tips like to go to Ikea for the rest of the baby's furniture instead of getting baby specific items, and never to buy a used crib or car seat (since regulations change so often). It just made me feel like I'll know what I'm doing when we're ready to make purchases for the baby.

Re: What are some good pregnancy books?
Great Expectations....it was my bible during my first pregnancy.
The first half is week by week development, the second half is a whole bunch of very useful info on everything from BFing to baby gear.

Re: What are some good pregnancy books?
For general information with my first pregnancy, I liked "What to Expect".
I was given Pregnancy: Week by Week with this pregnancy and am not a fan of it at all. It's poorly organized and I found it to be very negative. It would probably instill fear and anxiety in first time moms. I'm also a little more "granola" this pregnancy and this book is definitely OB centered.
If you want to go a different direction, try "Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method". I'm not into calling natural childbirth "hypnobirthing" because it makes it sound like its a new method of giving birth and you need to take a class for it. However, I do like that it reminded me of the many women who gave birth without unnecessary interventions and encourages mothers to take back her birthing experience as what nature intended instead of a sickness that needs to be treated and cured. I do wish "What to Expect" had more on midwives and the natural childbirth topic - it was a few years ago when I had it so it could be updated now.

I feel the exact opposite way about these two books. What to Expect frightened me and I thought it was very poorly organized. I love the Week by Week book.

I liked the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy and What to expect when you are expecting.
I just started Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy this past weekend and love it!! Very fun - would be a good beach read!

Re: What are some good pregnancy books?
Thanks girls! I ended up going with the "Your pregnancy week by week". It's definitely less overwhelming, but is still a greaat companion for "What to Expect".

I totally agree. I had DS in March and found this book to be the most helpful and informative, even more so that What to Expect. For fun, I liked Belly Laughs and Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay.
