What are some things that my sister will need for her dorm room?

My little sis is graduating high school and I am putting together a basket of stuff she'll need for college (she's going away). I didn't go away to school so I am clueless.

So far:
laundry basket
towels
washcloths
shower caddy
robe type thing to wear from the shower back to her room

I was thinking of flip flops to wear in the shower, slippers, a wipe off/bulletin board type thing, an alarm clock...

any ideas???!!! Thank you!

definitely a wipe off bulletin board--i LOVED that thing in college.

and yeah--"shower shoes" are a must.

-extra long sheets for dorm beds
-some snacks--maybe some 100 calorie packs and such to bring with her
-pillows
-air freshner for the room in case the roomie smells.
-paper towels
-utensils (for eating microwave snacks in the room) i think BBB has a special dorm room kit
-shampoo, conditioner, soap


this is just off the top of my head


i'd probably go with a laundry bag or two also--it can be easier to lug around the bag to the laundrom.

The above posters said it all but I wanted to add a toaster oven and microwave (though I don't think it will fit in your basket )

You may want to check with the school first before adding quarters a lot of colleges use a swipe system for their laundry machines.

You may also want to check into what restaurants are around and get her some gift cards for those places since cafeteria food gets old real quick!

Ohhhhh i would def throw in a bottle of fabreeze, too (in addition to the air freshner). My roomate freshman year STUNK. I loved her, but she stunk so badly. I sprayed her bed and all her crap w/ fabreeze everytime she left the room.

also, as someone that worked in residence life....

wait to buy some of the major items (i.e. things that would be shared) until after she speaks with her future roommate. when i ran a residence hall i would see people come in with everything and there would be two TVs, two coffeepots, etc.

also, halogen lamps, toasters, and hot plates will be confiscated at most colleges as they are a huge fire hazard.
