I suggest to get your finances together first.
- Run a credit report
- "fix" anything that needs to be fixed. For example you might find a "late payment" in there from a CC or somebody else. Sometimes (I said sometimes!!!) you can ask them to clear it from your credit. If not, send a letter to all 3 credit reporting agencies and explain the situation. That won't clear it but they will have it on file for notes.
- Get you W2 together.
Then go to a lender and ask them what information they need and what is important to "clean" before applying for a mortgage.
DO NOT CANCEL CC before running your credit. It might turn against you.
