what are the most important questions to ask a pediatrician?
We have our first consultation appointment this Saturday and I'd like to know what I really should ask. TIA!

what brand shots they have.. are they on call all the time... what you feel is right in your gut to ask.

What was important to us
- do you support nursing?
- are you willing to split shots?
- what are your thoughts/views on delaying vaccines?
- Do all peds in the office have similar views?
- What hospital are you affiliated with?
- how does the after hours work for emergencies?
- what is the response time if we call the emergency number for a dr. to call us back?

Off the top of my head:
What type of insurance do you take?
What are your hours?
Who covers you before/after hours?
Do you have a sick waiting room (to separate well-visits & sick kids)?
What is typical wait time?
Do you have walk in hours?
Do you have any kids? (it helps to have someone who has kids because they understand the new mom anxiety, etc)
What is your policy on immunizations? (if you opt not to immunize or want the shots split up)
What is your policy on calling in antibiotics/meds in without being seen? My ped will call in an rx for pink eye without seeing my daughter since she used to get it a lot. In the beginning, I can't imagine any ped agreeing to it until they know the mom & the baby but it does save on co-pays.
What hospital are you affiliated with?
Most important because you're seeing them A LOT, do you take my insurance?
