dh: got him lounge pants/pjs for running around the house. will also replace all his undies... i know we're poor, but come on! they need to be replaced

I got my Dad a set of fishing lures - he has the worst luck, but loves to fish. I'm sure I was totally taken in by the ad, but they are supposed to be gaurenteed to catch tons of fish  I'm sure my Dad will get a kick out of them 
I got DH a hammer drill.

Some golf GPS thing. I think it measures how far the ball travels or something along those lines.
Me and my sister are splitting it and I have to give her credit for coming up with the idea since she still lives with him and knows he wanted it.

he is weird- but after years of spending time and money on gifts only to have him return them- I GIVE UP

You could give him a pic of the two of you together when you were in kindergarten or a baby.. and then a pic of the two of you dancing on your wedding day in a side by side frame. You can engrave it with a sentimental quote or poem. If my dad was alive this is the kind of thing I would probably do.
Or I'd buy him socks.

ETA: My dad just had major back surgery and it is hard for him to stand and prepare dinner like he used to. He can't even go food shopping anymore (he is retired) my mom has taken over that role and hates it so this will make her happy too!

A root beer brewing kit. He LOVES root beer and making things. We'll do it together when we visit for the 4th of July.
For FIL we chipped in with my BIL and got him a heart rate watch and water bottle since he just started walking 2 miles each morning.

we got each of our dads a serving platter from williams and sonoma that has a painted picture of a fish on it... and a bottle of spicy southwestern beer marinade to go with it. and a card.
