actually, not too many...i stick with easy recipes- LOL but i remember one time when DH and i were dating, he had an apartment and i wanted to impress him, so before he came home i made him one of those oven roaster chickens on the bone. WELL, he didn't have a roasting pan, so i just put it on a cookie sheet- LOL the grease and juices had nowhere to go, and i almost set the place on fire! the smoke detectors were going off and everything- LOL so when we got engaged, one of the first things on the regitry was a nice big roasting pan Chat Icon

Re: What are your cooking disasters? Confessions.

this wasnt really a disaster, just kind of funny.

i was making a new chicken dish and wanted to add white wine- but the oil in the pan was hot and the chicken was really cooking..

well i put the oil in and it SPLATTERED EVERYWHERE - on the ceiling, on the floor, on my clothes, on dh,

luckily we werent burned- we laughed afterwards, but it took forever to clean up..

not really a disaster for me either but just funny.

we just got married in june and i NEVER cooked when i lived at my parents house. the first time i attempted to make a whole chicken i didnt know there was a bag inside the chicken! i seasoned the chicken, put on the marinade, and threw it in the oven. half way thru, my sister arrives and goes "you took the bag out right?"...i was like "what bag?!?!?!?"...everyone got a good laugh at my expense. Once we were cooking steak in the oven and it went on fire. DH didn't know what to do, so he grabbed the fire extinguisher and sprayed away. What a mess. My mom was like "why would you do that", just cover it with a sheet pan.

ok, this is MOST embarrassing!!! I had leftovers from a restaurant once and it was in a styrofoam container.

I was on the phone with DH (when we were 1st dating) and without thinking, I put the whole container in the toaster oven to heat up Chat Icon Chat Icon a few minutes go by and I ask him "btw, do you know if it's ok to put styrofoam in the toaster oven"> and he shouted back NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ran into the kitchen and sure enough, the container had melted and made a HUGE MESS!! I had to throw the whole darn thing out Chat Icon

and he still married me anyway Chat Icon Chat Icon

I really do not have many.
I made a lentil soup that my DH still brings up. It was not that bad, but was too tomatoey and did not taste like lentil so he did not like it.

I cooked boil in a bag rice,,,,but FORGOT to put water in the pot. (It was one of those nights where I was beat!)

Re: What are your cooking disasters? Confessions.

When I was in 10th grade I wanted to make a cheesecake....well it imploded!!!!! but still splattered the oven!

Another time.....

My mom keeps stuff in the ovenwhen it is not in use. Pans, etc

Ok well on two separate occasions I had a PROBLEM

1. I had "thought" I cleaned it all out
Well my mom had a wooden cutting board in there. And I set it on fire Chat Icon

2. I had "thought" I cleaned it all out. Well do you know the plug that comes out of those skillets you make pancakes on? Well it fell to the bottom of the oven and I burned it all up!

NOTE TO SELF: WHEN I MOVE OUT MAKE SURE I DO NOT KEEP SH*T IN MY OVEN!
....I have been moved out for almost a year now and THERE IS NOTHING IN THE OVEN!

Other than that I havent had any mishapas!

I was taking a Spanish class and we had to make something to bring in. I decided, after doing research, to make a "tres leches" cake. Looked easy enough. I was so tired, and doing it last minute, that I thought it called for Angel Food cake - not regular yellow cake. So, I had a box of Angel Food, mixed it up and put it in a shallow pyrex rectangular pan. After 20 minutes, I realized it smelled and opened the oven to find it had swelled and poured ALL OVER the oven. Duh...Chat Icon

I used my set it and forget it rotisserie. I forget to take the plastic case of blades for my food processor off the top of the rotisserrie, so it melted on to it. I was so upset, DH called KitchenAid and had it replaced that night. Chat Icon

When I was like 16 I made Chicken Cordon Bleu for eight people. I forgot to take the plastic wrap off the top before putting it in the oven. I realised 10 minutes in. We pulled the cheese and ham off the top and ate the chicken. Chat Icon

DH has put pyrex on the stove top as I stood there saying you can't do that, it will explode (my sister did it a long time ago). He does Chat Icon, it explodes. He gets a phone call, so I was left to clean it up.

My aunt when first married was making turkey for the first meal. When it said wash the bird, she used Dove soap.

My sister made baked ziti her first night as husband and wife for the two of them. The only thing is, she was used to helping my mom cook for eight people, so she made a huge one for just the two of them. They had leftovers for days. Chat Icon

Re: What are your cooking disasters? Confessions.

LOL, everyone! thanks for the stories. they are hilarious!!! i guess we had a few "fires", splatters, melt downs, and explosions!!

Once, I tried to make pasta from scratch -- my one and only time. My sisters had given me a pasta machine as a gift. I invited all of the family over. And decided to make some linguine and then some gnocchi.

My sister and I were rolling and cutting the gnocchi. I don't know why, but we decided to rest a plate in the middle section of the stovetop -- for putting the rolled-and-cut gnocchi onto. I had a bunch of burners going on the stovetop with boiling water and other things cooking. I guess we were thinking we'd put the gnocchi from the plate right into the boiling water when we were done.

We were happily rolling away and placing the nuggets on the plate. This took a really long time. Phew! When we finally finished rolling and cutting, we realized that the entire pile of nuggets had melted and melded together from the hot stovetop. It formed one giant, yucky mound! LOL. OMG!

The first time I tried to roast a chicken, I was told to wash it.

So I washed it.

With soap .Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What are your cooking disasters? Confessions.

About 2 months ago, I made these chicken satay skewers on a grill pan. The chicken was in thin strips threaded on the skewers and I guess when I grilled them, I didn't leave them on long enough. Sure enough, about half-way through my first one, I bit into raw chicken! DH calls it my "chicken sushi"
