Re: What are your plans post natal?
After 3 months i will be going back to work full time. But my husband has a rotating shift schedule, so he'll be home a lot with the baby when i'm not.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I am taking the max time off which may be between 12-18 weeks (paid for the first 6 weeks only) and then I am planning on going back f/t to the job I have now. I never wanted to be a f/t SAHM. I would love to work p/t or flexable hours though, but that is not possible at my current position. Maybe something will come up though

Re: What are your plans post natal?
not sure.
We want to get into a house ASAP, and to do so I really need to work so DH does not have to work OT. But I need to get a job first (the B@STARDS I interviewed with never called me either way, I called today and left a message)

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I'M WORKING UP UNTIL THE BITTER END AND THEN WE WILL PLAY IT BY EAR. I WILL TAKE THE 6 WEEKS DISABILITY AND SOME VACATION TIME/TIME WITHOUT PAY. WE WANT TO SEE HOW IT RUNS ON ONE SALARY. I MAY STAY HOME FOR A BIT AND EVENTUALLY FIND A JOB CLOSER TO HOME.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I will be taking 12 weeks off starting next Monday. I am due two weeks later.
I need my job because it pays more than DH's and is more stable. I will try to work 4 days a week after the 12 weeks. Hopefully only going into the city 3 of those days and working from home one. I can't do more than that because I live in setauket and the commute is over 2 hours each way and I get home at 9 PM.
My mother will watch the baby Mondays and my MIL will watch her for the other two. Or something like that.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I'm at SAHM. I'm looking into part time work though. For the extra $$ and to get out of the house.
We are far from rich, but to pay child care would be ridiculous.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I will have my 6-8 weeks of paid leave and then use my Vacation time saved from 2008- about 4 weeks, so about 12 weeks total and then back to work for me. I work days, hubby works midnights, so we plan on working our schedule so we don't need daycare, or at the worst... only for about 2 hours a day if we don't overlap. I would love it if hubby could be a SAHD...so would he! But he has 3 kids from his first marriage and the truth is, with that ridiculous child support payment, we would lose our house if I didn't work. Hopefully I can work my schedule so we don't need to use daycare at all!

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I'm a teacher, so If baby arrives on time 7/30, I'll have all of August off and I'm hoping to extend my ML until the beginning of November. I'd be due back to work the second week in September. Money will be very tight but I would like the baby to be at least 3 months before I head back to work.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I have 8 weeks paid maternity and will then be returning to work full time. Thank goodness my mom lives nearby and she will be taking care of my . If she wasn't around, I would probably be a SAHM or my boyfriend would be a SAHD. One of us would have stayed with our son.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I am taking a few months off - I will be paid for the first 6-12 weeks.
Depending on our financial situation, we will reevaluate if I will return to work at that point. I will be a f/t working mom at some point, but the baby will either be 6 months or a little over a year.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
no SAHM for me.....
DH is still in grad school, so my income is crutial. Both of our schedules are flexible, though... we can basically arrive and leave when we want... as long as we get a lot done every day.
My mom will be taking care of crumb while we're at work. For the first few weeks, I will use sick days... I will also work from home for a while (I have a massive pile of data to analyze, and that can be done anywhere...)

Re: What are your plans post natal?
i am trying to make a career change while i'm out.. or at the very least a location change.. so i plan on staying out after i have the baby until i find a new job.. because quite frankly i refuse to go back to my current job after the baby is born.

I really think it’s great women have the option to even think about it being a choice. Personally there is no choice and the idea of having a choice is funny. But isn’t great how far we’ve come?
We’re not rich. We’re not close to rich. We don’t even have a savings account for more than overdraft. We don’t own our home, we don’t own both cars, we don’t have some rich family, we don’t have families who can support us, we don’t have friends who are willing to pitch in, we probably won’t even have a baby shower, we don’t have ‘roots’ here and we don’t have something to ‘lean on’ money-wise. We are transplanted New Yorkers, me from Texas him from China. We work hard but have bills that come with travel, relocation and trying to survive in New York.
We need the money. I have to go back to work, period. I make a decent living and it gets us by. Without it, I’d have to move out of New York and be in Poverty for another 10 years to bounce back. Thanks but no thanks.
I’ll be working thank you.
Just because some of us are choosing the route of staying home does not mean we are rich, we have "rich families", giving friends, or large savings.
DH and I have family here who could offer nothing more but moral support. They could not provide any financial assistance and nor would we expect them to. The decision to start a family was ours, solely ours, and should not become a burden on anyone else.
For DH and I it's a matter of budgeting our money. And to be completely honest, I could send to daycare 12 weeks after he is born and go back to work full time. But the amount of my salary that would be redirected to cover the cost of daycare just doesn't make it worth me going back to work at first.
Sorry - I just think your outlook on women staying at home to tend to their children is slightly misconstrued.
OP, that is a really hostile post! Just because someone is going to stay home, doesn't mean they are rich or have outside sources supporting them.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I would LOVE to be a SAHM, but unfortunately it doesn't work for us financially.
With DD I had 14 weeks fully paid maternity leave (I did about 8 hours a week from home, so that was a great deal.) I went back full time, but worked out 2 days from home and 3 days in the office. DD is in daycare the 3 days I'm in the office and home with me the 2 days I work from home.
With DS I will only get 6 weeks paid (new boss), but I'm planning on leaving my current co. and try to find a job as a per diem CPA in a public accounting firm doing taxes. My plan is to work 2 days in the office and 1 day home (and have 2 days off in addition to the weekend.)
I have an interview on Thursday

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I'm fortunate that I have a choice financially to stay home. It would be lean, but I think our $ choices up to this point offered us the option. We live well w/i our means.
BUT - I can't bring myself to give up my career. I'm a CPA, and worked so hard. For a number of reasons I think its healty for a child to be in day care. (its a personal opinion) I also think its good for my kids to see me at work. I am lucky to have a flexible job that I love (for now).
I'll be back to work in a few months.
