What are your thoughts on this (group gift related)
I'm referring to a school where there are teachers and assistants.
Do you think the $ collected should be allocated the same to all the staff (full time and part time) in the room or by hours?
I was asked my opinion - I said I thought it should be done by hours if there is a significant difference (e.g. one works a 9 hour day and the other a 3 hour afternoon shift.) I don't think the head should be given more than the assistant since they both work just as hard.
I was totally attacked for "nickel and dime'ing" my DC's care. They work harder than me.... just because someone works half the time, doesn't mean they love or care for my DC less, etc.
I'm sorry - I just feel the person who works a 15/20 hour week should not get the same as the person who works a 40/45 hour week regardless of position. I actually favor one of the part time helpers more than the full time and I will give that person a little something extra from just me outside of the group gift.
I was definitely in the minority. Thoughts?

What you are saying seems to make sense to me. Giving an extra little gift to someone that you feel is taking particularly exceptional care of your child is very thoughtful too!

makes sense. here at my job the part timers (which is myself) got $100 bonus and the full timers $200.
I dont see why someone who is there 50hrs should get the same as someone there 12 hrs??
Its not nickel and diming. and thats nice of you to reward the part timer you like the best with something else from yourself.

They asked your opinion and then attacked your for it-great, why ask?
I agree with you-if there is a substantial difference in work schedule, I would go heavy for the full time and lighter for the PT people.
That's how it generally is with pay, with vacation, etc. That just comes with the territory of being PT imo.

Re: What are your thoughts on this (group gift related)
They said something about them being compensated with their salary for the # of hours they put in - our gift to is to thank them for taking care of our children. Good care and "love" isn't determined by "hours."
I kinda get what they are saying, but at the same time if I was there 20 hours more than my staff and got the same I'd be upset. We are all entitled to our opinions - I guess I was the only one willing to give the not so popular one lol After I was attacked, every one else chimed in "fine with giving the same" Maybe they felt the same way as me, but were afraid to speak up.
It happens on here all the time

I agree with you.
I think it should be done the way you suggest and if there was someone who was a part timer that I thought was really going above and beyond, I would get her a little extra thing.
My DS's room lost their full time assistant recently and she hasn't been replaced. There have been floaters in and out for about a month while they try to place someone permanently. The floaters do not know DS the way a full time staff person does, they aren't in the room all day, every day to tell me how he did that day, what's going on, what to be aware of, etc. I wouldn't give these teachers the same gift I would give his full time permanent teacher. Call me scrooge.....
