what are your thoughts on this house?

we saw it...we like most of it...deciding if we should put it on our short list

pros and cons are appreciated...

I can tell you one con already is that the second floor ceiling where the bedrooms are is kinda low, for me...the spoiled 11ft girl that I am.

Wow that's a lot of land! Beautiful house... and I think the cathedral ceilings downstairs would make up for the low ceilings upstairs.

you have room for that and then some

I would suggest a riding mower or a landscaping company

otherwise your whole weekend is going to spent on it

Yes, but keep in mind that cathedral ceiling can really draw the heat UP. Honestly, that was my first thought when I saw the pic. It can raise your heating bills. A co-worker bought a home with very high ceilings in her main living area and she was shocked at her heating bill and that was several years ago.

I also agree with taking care of the property... it might prove to be a pain.Chat Icon

ETA: It's a nice house, just pointing out some things that might become annoying.

I actually love the green staircase! They mention that 1 of the bathrooms is updated. Does the other one need a lot of work? Is there a DR?

manual , manual? Not eevn gas powered? I walked by a big fancy house in a neighborhood where you never see homeowners doing work & there was this guy, with the old fashioned push mower! It wasn't a huge lawn, but still, I was shocked! It was also during that heat wave in early June! Chat Icon

Re: what are your thoughts on this house?

i love the house! i wouldn't mind having that much land, if i could afford to have soomeone take care of it.

i have a good friend who lives in that area, she is a teacher (VERY good school districts) and she adores middletown and the surrounding towns as well.

I have cathedral ceilings in my LR & DR. LOATHE THEM. Besides the heating/air conditioning costs it becomes a real PITA to get at bugs and spiderwebs. They seem to have learned and pretty much only hang out on the ceiling and corners of those 2 rooms. Chat Icon

Plus I feel like it's so much wasted space, our bedrooms are so small in order to accommodate the LR & DR ceilings.

I must say that my husband especially don't not the get hype about cathedral and vaulted ceilings at all.

we both lived in homes with crazy high ceilings, but one floors height was not at the expense of anothers, you know...so again...ceiling height is an issue, and there is not much attic space, so raising the roof will be an expensive proposition (though the cost of the house mitigates that)

as far as heating, do you think the HUGE fireplace in the living room would offset heating costs, even with the height of the ceilings?

IDK b/c we've never had a fireplace. I do have a friend who has one and says that they lose a lot of heat up the chimney when it's not in use since they leave the flue open. I guess one time they forgot they had closed it and all the smoke went into the house.

You could install a ceiling fan at the top. In Winter months, have the fan push air downward. My IL's have very high ceilings in their lake home and they use the ceiling fan to circulate the air.

Lovely home! I'd designate a section of the land for a native plants and wild grasses and maybe a butterfly garden.

Re: what are your thoughts on this house?

Well pros would be you are near alot in Middletown (moving upstate) tons of shopping supermarkets etc. Also it is a great size for a vacations home

Only thing would be the land, but we are getting two acres as well Chat Icon
