what are your work guidelines for days that you wake up and theres a ton of snow?
i havent been at my current job yet during the winter and from what i've heard, they do not close the office for snow- at all. What do you guys do, do you have to call your bosses to see if you are closed? Do you still have to go into work and just get there when you can get there? I refuse to leave my house any earlier than i do now..so if that means me getting here at 11, than so be it

my company will allow you to work from home if we choose to venture in, my company will allow us to take as long as we need to do so

Re: what are your work guidelines for days that you wake up and theres a ton of snow?
We are never ever closed.
I get up a little earlier to get ready and shovel out (or DH will shovel out) and I try to get my normal train. I get to the office as close to normal time as I can.
ETA: If the storm is coming in the afternoon and its getting bad on Long Island, I will ask to leave a little early.

We are expected to show as close to our regular starting time as possible. FWIW, a ton of snow would be more then 12-15" in my company.
ETA..that it would take a state of emergency to actually close the office, maybe. Between 15" and what ever amount the emergency takes place the owners are a little more lax about start & stop times.

There is a general information # to call, with a recording that tells us if the office is open or not.

If they close, we get a call in the morning. I work in a small office and they HATE closing, but if it's bad out I make the choice to stay home. I refuse to put myself in danger over work! ha!

I work in a hospital so the world would have to be ending for my job to close However if it's really bad outside and you live in a 5mile radius of the hospital they will send someone to pick you up. Unfortunately I do fall in that category

We have the same thing...I work in a nursing home so they never let us off for snow. I just take my time and get there when I can...if its like a foot of snow I just dont go in but they use sick or vacation time

I work in a Nursing Home, we're always open! If you don't come in you have to use a vacation/sick day. My boss won't close the office due to snow because he lives 10 minutes away and feels if he can drive in so can we.

We have a generous amount of time off, so if you feel you can't make it in that day, you can use vacation, personal or sick time and stay home.

Unless we get a phonecall, we have to proceed as usuall, but we are allowed to be a little late.
I leave earlier than my boss, so I always fear I will be on my way in before she calls.

We call a phone number to see if it's open, closed or has a delayed opening. I really don't want to use a vacation day right now.

Re: what are your work guidelines for days that you wake up and theres a ton of snow?
I work in a funeral home....so we NEVER close...we have had to go to people's houses if someone passes away at home ina blizzard. I have directed a funeral from West Islip to Calverton in blizzard conditions once. It was an all day event!! I just leave early! (But I don't think we are expecting a blizzard tomorrow, so no need to worry!! )

Me too If I dont get a call by 6:30-6:45 I go out, warm the car, shovel, and get a start on my commute. My boss took our cell numbers too, which is good, in case we left already!

I hear my place of employment rarely ever closes. I will get up earlier and give myself enough time to make sure I get the snow off my car and spot.

Me too! We actually don't have a phone chain at my school, which is obnoxious, but I check our local news station obsessively. Unfortunatly our district is apparently the last one to close in the area.
