we were told that was the best one
There are no betters ones (per say) as the vast majority these tv's are the same parts.
most people when they buy them in the store don't even tweak them to personalize the setting for the best picture

I agree the only thing that matters is the Definition of the televisioin ie: 720i, 720p, 1801i, 1080p and the number of inputs. If you only watch regular TV and dvd's, you don't need a 1080P tv.
If you watch BlueRay dvd's and play games on a PS3, then the best picture is going to be on a 1080P television with at least 2 HDMI inputs.

I agree. I've come to the same conclusion. We did a lot of research on TV's before buying. We contemplated over LCD vs. Plasma. Now that we have both I truly cannot see the difference. OK, the LCD has a little more brightness and color but this is all adjustable. Both my TV's are adjusted pretty much the same so in the end it really doesn't matter. Your personal taste is what matters. And, go with a manufacture that has a reputable track record.
Also, those shopping for a set can forget what you see in the stores. The displays in the stores are never adjusted to your taste so what you see is not what you’re getting.

We have a 37 inch LG (love it, awesome picture) and a 20something inch Samsung. It's very nice, but I just think the LG picture is sharper.

We have a samsung lcd. We went with the LCD cause my husband has an xbox. I would be weary about the Sony's cause they have a clouding, aura effect. As others have suggested. AVSForums is a great place to start your research.
