What camcorder do you have, and do you use it?

We just got a DSLR in preparation for , but I was considering also getting a moderately/low priced camcorder.

Any recommendations (say around/under $500), and do you use the camcorder?

I bought mine a few years ago. Its a JVC one. I love it. I don't use it often but I try to pull it out every few months and get videos of the girls. I also record new milestone like rolling over, crawling, walking, and talking.


I didn't have one with my first baby and unfortunately he past away. The thing I regret most is not having a camcorder! I have no videos of him and it kills me.


My oldest daughter is 2 and I LOVE watching videos from when she was a baby. I can only imagine how much the videos will mean to me in 20 years!

I also have a small JVC camcorder that we bought when DS was about 2 months. I wish we would have bought one sooner so we could have footage of him coming home from the hospital etc... We use ours at least once a week even if it's just for a minute or two. I even filmed him at 2am because I loved how he looked when he would stretch after being asleep for a few hours. Ours was 399.00 and was recommended by parenting magazine.

We have a camcorder, I think a JVC also and we don't use it much. Mainly just for special events. Otherwise I just take short videos on my point and shoot camera.

Sony DSR -SR220

We use it for holidays and stuff. DH researched it and its his toy really. He spent about 550 for it, but he negotiated best buy down for it b/c he found a better price on-line, (but he had gift cards at best buy....)

Its very easy to use and I love it...

We recently saw some old footage of DH's grandparents and it was great to see them healthy and young - we really wanted to have that of our families and give that gift to our children...

Beth we got one last year. We use it all the time. The footage of right after Gavin was born is priceless.

We have an old camcorder. It cost us an arm and a leg when Robbie was born in 2001. We used it A LOT when the boys were small - but now we only use it when they are doing something particuarly cute or interesting - or on holidays - maybe 2x a month? It's some sort of Sony.

we have a sony handycam hard drive camcorder. I don't know the exact m odel number off the top of my head. We use it all the time! My mom was good with taking videos of me and my siblings when we were younger and we all love wathcing these videos now. I wanted to capture the same memories for Landon. I love our camcorder too - we got a great deal on it at circuit city - it was a floor model and was missing a few cables and the CD. We got a couple hundred dollars off, and just called Sony for theb replacements. This is how DH justified the purchase, since he didn't think we really needed it. But like I said, I use it all the time on regular days, just getting videos of Landon p;laying, in the bathtub, jumping in the jumperoo, etc.
