And for the record, the fact that this dog is a Pitt is completely irreverent. Any breed, big or small can be aggressive.
It's relevant when certain breeds like Pitt command more homeowners insurance or even an additional rider to their policy that they own a Pitt.
If I had a neighbor that had an angry Pitt, I would be very concerned if that dog was properly insured by that homeowner.
The breed is irrelevant , and I'd like to know how anybody knows it's angry. My cocker spaniel would bark at leaves falling. My pretty pitie only makes a peep when she needs to go out. Not all dogs that bark are angry. They can be curious or excited.
The breed is relevant, despite what your pitbull loving self may think. When you file for a homeowners insurance policy, they will SPECIFICALLY ask you if you have a dog that is a certain breed (from a list of about 10 breeds). Pitbull is one of them. If the homeowner lies because they don't want to pay the added costs of insurance, then that presents a problem.
If I get bitten by a dog, I have a better chance of being paid out by somebody's homeowners if I get bit by a breed that is not on that list. So don't tell me the breed isn't relevant when FACT says it is.

I totally agree. Pitbulls have been bred to cause maximum damage when they attack. That is why they are the dog of choice for drug dealers, criminals, and unfortunately your neighbors. I have had dogs my whole life, including an enormous Alaskan malamute. I spent one night at my friends home who had a pitbull and was terrified. He was so aggressive, my friend wound up putting him the bathroom for the night, where I had the pleasure of listening to him growl menacingly all night. These dogs have no place in family neighborhoods!

Whatever he is, he sounds *&^%$@# annoying . And it's the owners fault because they are being irresponsible. So whether he is curious or excited or a pitt or a maltese, he is frightening the OP and her child. I would definitely try calling in the noise complaint if you don't think the neighbors will be receptive.

Unfortunately your friend was an irresponsible pitbull owner. Pitbulls like MOST dogs, especially large breeds NEED to be properly trained! Saying they have no place in family neighborhoods is a bit of a stretch. I have 2 friends who have pitbulls (and/or cats and kids that reside with said dogs) and those dogs are the sweetest animals ever. But due to the fact that there are still many people who train their pits to be aggressive or just don't properly train them, their reputation is less than stellar and I can understand why people fear them.

This would drive me insane. Can you get a dog whistle? Or spray something to keep him away from your fence?
I wouldn't mess around with that breed. My DH was bit by one ( pit was truly playing) through his heavy winter coat. He had huge bruises and cuts where the dogs big teeth are. Those things scare me

what can i do about neighbors dog?!
Any large dog is scary if it is not trained properly and yes pitbulls may be a good loving dog when trained but if the owner is letting the dog bark and charge the fence every single time they are outside then most likely they are not training the dog well. That is the problem. Whether it was a german shepard, a rottie, or a pitbull or any other dog like that, it would scare the beejeezus out of me every time I walked about side.
I would call for noise complaints and have your neighbors call too, eventually they will have to do something.

Aggressive dogs have no place being unsupervised in any neighborhood regardless of breed. Pitbulls have a bad rap but you know, any dog can attack. I have been bitten 3x by dogs...2x by a dachshund and once by a pomeranian that charged me at the beach while walking with my toddlers. I would log a complaint with the police department about the aggressiveness of the dog.

what can i do about neighbors dog?!
Your neighbors are irresponsible and don’t deserve that dog. Is the dog outside all the time? That infuriates me.
I had a similar situation with one of my neighbors. She had a huge mastiff that even my dog loving DH was scared of. He’d bark and stand up by the fence when we’d pull up, run up and down the fence and bark when we were outside, etc. My DD was terrified of dogs at the time and would immediately beg to go inside. My neighbor, though, would bring the dog in when she heard him start up. He was a guard dog, but she didn’t leave him outside and was responsible for him. I'm not sure you can do anything beyond talk to your neighbors.
Regarding the comments about pittbulls… We have a pitt mix. There’s such a stigma around them and people are automatically scared when they see her or hear we have her. The only time she barks is when we’re playing with her toys with her. She doesn’t even bark at the door bell or the dog that yaps 24/7 behind us. Regardless of her breed, she is a big dog and much stronger than I am. I do end up with bruises after playing with her. Doesn’t mean she’s a vicious dog. My 2 year old abuses the poor thing, but my dog, knock on wood, has not viciously gone after her. But I’m aware she can, just like my dad’s miniature pincher did (which is why my DD was terrified of dogs for some time). We do everything we can to be responsible dog owners. I was actually nervous to get a pitt, but a family member got one and it was the first dog my DD took to and I saw firsthand how gentle they can be when they have responsible owners. To say they don’t deserve a place in family neighborhoods is just ignorant. That’s like saying teenagers don’t deserve a place in family neighborhoods because some parents don’t know how to parent and their kids can be destructive to society.
Can my dog kill or seriously injure someone? Yep. But so can many other breeds. It’s about being a responsible owner, which includes knowing what your dog is capable of.

Ok newname shit stirrer. Because ALL pitts belong to drug dealers, and are aggressive. I have a pitt mix and he is a wuss. He meets you and lays down to pet his belly. Go troll somewhere else.

I have a Cane Corso (which have similar features as a pitbull) but my dog is a mastiff and can do worst damage than a pitubull and rottweiler put together. DH and I paid a very well know trainer to train him and even before he was properly trained, my dog is the most loving giant dog ever. I have a 15 pound shih tzu and has a worst attitude than my cane corso. I've met many pitbulls that are very loving. Your comment is very ignorant (I'm sure you are too). Educate yourself first before commenting.

I agree with this. ONLY because there are breeds that are categorized as more dangerous from a homeowners perpective. My grandmother had a pitt who lived next door, they have a 4 foot fence, the dog got loose and practically licked us to death after hopping the fence. Obviously it was a NICE dog, but that doesnt change the fact that from an insurance stance, you pay higher premiums or may have issues getting HO with certain carriers due to the type of dog.
My parents were dropped by their insurance carrier years ago when they did spot checks and foudn we had a dalmatian....apparently they are on the dangerous breed list. Well at hte time ours was 12 years old, deaf and slept 23hours a day. even in her prime, she would guide a stranger to the good china if it meant you would pet her behind the ears.
Anyway, I think the breed was part of the story, to give us an idea as to WHY the homeowners are uncomfortable with the behaviors, it also gives us an idea as to the power of the dog. If a yorkie is running along the fence barking at the neighborhood kids, most likely those kids are going to ignore the dog. IF a LARGE dog, say a pitt or german shepard is doing the same, those kids may walk on the opposite side of the street.

Re: what can i do about neighbors dog?!
I adore dogs, and pitties. If I could adopt one, I would but I don't have the room (so I have a min pin). I volunteer at a dog shelter and there are mostly Pitts there. And when they jump and bark, they look scary. They are so sweet, but they are very, very strong, muscular, loud, and jumpy. I can see how even the most avid dog lover may find this old living next door to. And a little kid would be terrified.
Yes, all dogs have the right to live in family neighborhood. I totally agree. But don't family neighborhoods have the right to feel safe and unthreatened?
I would not be happy with this at all.

This is the most ignorant thing I've read about pits. Pits were breed to be nanny dogs and served as such until asshats like Michael Vick and the likes decided to fight them. Their normal disposition is loving and friendly.
And I dare somebody to spray my dog because she barks. Believe me it won't be my gentle loving pit you'd have to worry about. I'd bite your head off

No it's because of ignorance to the breed and nothing more. IN the 70s they bullied the Dobbies, then it was German Shepards, then it was Rotties and now it's Pits. Hopefully they pick goldens next because the last time my dog was attacked ( without any provocation) it was by a golden who bit her ear so hard it bleed d. Poor coco jumped back and yelped. Then she sat down, lied Down, and tried to make friends with vicious dog who bit her. Pawing at the ground in front of her. Tail wagging. Smiling that big pitie smile. . That's FACT!

Re: what can i do about neighbors dog?!
The real issue us that this dog is outside so much. I have a dog that barks a lot. As a result, I know that I can't just let him outside and forget about him. We get him out enough to make sure he has a good life, can do his thing, etc. but people around here should be able to use and enjoy their homes. Now that our neighbors know that I am right there, they will tolerate some barking because they know I will be right there to get the dog back inside. He's gotten much better with age anyway but that's a different story.

I really hate people like this. there are plenty of other dogs that can and will do more harm then pits. These dogs only want to please us, if they are taught to fight and win and then rewarded for their GREAT behavior then thats what they will strive to do. THese dogs are the most loyal and loving dogs. And most of the time the most re-abialited dogs out there. My pit is the biggest mush and the biggest scary pants ever!!!!
I have had people pet him and when they ask what kind of dog he is and tell them pit, they all of sudden stop and make a face. Well 2 minutes before that you were fine with them. Stop listening to the media and what they think these dogs are. These dogs are the best out there! And i will continue to fight for them and i will always have one or more I'n my home. Re: what can i do about neighbors dog?!
I know how you feel! My mom had a neighbor with 5 pitbulls at one point! Their pitbull had puppies and they couldn't find new owners so they decided so raise them all. One chased down my nephew and the owner had to grab the dog. My husband even kicked the dog away from my nephew. It was horrible. We called the police and they directed us to call the Suffolk Animal control They came to the house and gave them a "warning." It was a waste of time and energy. Unless someone is hurt they won't do anything for you. It's so scary. Luckily those lousy neighbors moved. I would just talk to the neighbor. I think the more you ask them to keep their dog quiet the more likely they will be to bring the dog in when you guys are out.

Re: what can i do about neighbors dog?!
Back in November, a pit, that was being walked on a leash, broke through my in-laws fence and murdered one of their Yorkies. My four year old could have been in their yard. I'm not saying all pits are bad, but as someone else mentioned, these are strong and powerful dogs that have jaws of steel and can do serious damage. The pit was not antagonized in any way, it heard my in-laws dogs barking on the other side of the fence.
