What can MIL buy for DD other than clothes or toys?

So my MIL is coming to visit next week and DH said she has already expressed a desire to shop for DD. Well, I have a bad habit of buying a ton of stuff for DD. I love shopping for her. Her closet is already stocked for summer. I don't think she needs another thing. I might buy her some shorts when they weather gets warmer but I just bought her a bunch of stuff last week in five different storesChat Icon

I don't want to offend MIL and tell her not to buy anything for DD (I am already getting so much grief because she is staying in a hotel, which is another story).

What other grandmotherly indulgence can she have? And please don't suggest just "spending time with DD" She wants that but she specifically said she wants to take her shopping

what about books? It's not a toy or clothes and they can spend a lot of time together in the book store picking them out.

Oh, I should have added: I spent five years working for a children's book publisher. After DD was born, all of my old publishing friends from different companies sent TONS of books.

How about some kind of keepsake that will last forever-A solid wood toybox, a rocking chair, a table and chairs.

I still have my rocking chair and table and chairs from my childhood and now my girls use them when they go see grandma.

But honestly, if i were you and she wants to buy stuff for my DD's, i'd let her get anything she wants, it's not about you, it's about her and loving to pick out something cute for her granddaughter.
My girls have so much stuff, but i never turn down clothes, i know their grandmothers LOVE to shop for them and i see how happy it makes them when they show me what they bought. Just my 2 cents...

Ooh, she only has one bathing suit and we have a pool in our condo complex. Maybe MIL would like to buy her a bathing suit, cover up, beachy hat , water shoes. She is eager to take DD to the beach when she comes, so maybe she would like to get her prepared for it.

I like the Build a Bear idea but DD is only 14.5 months. I think she would need to be older to appreciate it.

I really do like the bathing suit idea, though. Chat Icon

Re: What can MIL buy for DD other than clothes or toys?

i found that every holiday or visit from people we know, someone bought toys and we just have WAY too many and half of them dont get played with and i was sick of it!
so now when someone asks (or i openly tell them, depends who im telling)
i ask them to buy a disney classic DVD so i can start the collection for my kids...when i was young i had them on VHS so i thought it would be a nice collection for my kids to have and grow up with... and each DVD runs anywhere from $15-$25 depending which one it is and how new it is, so thats about what everyone in the family spends on the kids anyway...its worked out great so far. the kids have gotten DVDs for christmas, valentines day and easter, since mentioning the idea to family and friends! i feel that a collection like this will last forever! hope this idea helped!Chat Icon
