what can you do if your gmail or facebook is hacked into and you can't gain access?

my sister's FB and gmail were hacked into and they changed her password. she can't get into either and neither will respond to her email requests for help.

has this happened to anyone? what can she do?

I just went through this. It took me almost 2 months to get my FB back. Still don't have my email back.

I had hotmail. When I found out I was hacked, I tried to access my account 3 times until I got the forgot my password link. Then I opened up a support ticket and got a private forum link sent to my gmail. We went back and forth for weeks. I gave them info about my account, that wasn't enough. I gave them more.

At the same time, I contacted support at FB (through the link). They said to gain access to my email account and do the forgot your password schpiel.

Then, Hotmail gave it back to me (password control) but it was closed due to suspicious activity. I've opened another support ticket (3 actually) asking them to reopen the acct but it's been almost a month since the first ticket and haven't heard a thing.

Then I contacted FB again and said that I had password control of my hotmail but it was closed and hotmail wasn't responding. I asked them to change my email to my gmail, they asked for my mother's maiden, and then sent me a temp password to access FB again. I went in and it asked to confirm the suspicious activity. My FB acct was accessed in Lagos, Nigeria. Obviously, that was not me. Scary though.

Be sure to change your passwords often and make them obscure!! Mine was a random bunch of letters and numbers but I hadn't changed it since I created the accounts. Lesson learned.

Did she set up the recovery email on gmail? If so, she can ask for a password reset and it will be sent to the alternate email she indicated.

I had my account be deactived because it was hacked into. I guess someone got my passwork and sent out a bunch of spam type messages. When I went to access my acct I got a message that it was deactivated and listed off the possible reasons like breaking their rules. It gave an option to contact them if I thought it was an error which I did, I never heard anything back. I kept tying to access the account for like a wk or 2 and contacted them a few times w/no feedback. Finally one day it was just re-activated and they forced me to change my password. I went into my sent mail and saw that there were only 2 or 3 emails sent out but the person who hacked in so they caught it pretty quick. Maybe they will deactivate it and hold it for a while like they did w/mine.
