What can you use instead of hand weights?

When you do fitness videos that require them?

Soup cans? Frozen veggies? lol
I don't have weights and don't want to invest in them until I know I'll stick w/the program.

Yeah I heard soup cans- but I feel like that could be akward to grip while doing the reps.
Water bottles might work.
I got this great water bottle in Bed Bath and Beyond that holds your entire 8 glasses of water for the day- it looks like a mini version of the bottle that sits on the water cooler at work.
It has a handle- so that would work great!

Bottled water, you can do small, medium, large, extra large. It works well in a bind.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find some water bottles around here.

Re: What can you use instead of hand weights?

Water bottles are usually 16 oz., so that's only one pound. Cans of soup, too. Bigger ones might be a pound and a half, but they're hard to grip and that's still not such a great challenge. For bicep curls, upright rows, lateral raises, etc. try loading up shopping bags with 5 or so bottles or cans - that would make it easy to grip. Pretty hard to work your chest muscles or triceps with those, though!

Just so you know, hand weights aren't that expensive. Maybe a little over a dollar a pound? So, two 5-lb. weights would be $10-$15 - a great investment!
