What causes eczema flair ups??
Colin's face was fine when he woke and within 30-minutes he's all blotchy and dry and trying to scratch his head off. He is constantly cutting himself.
I've put aquaphor on him at night before bed since he is swaddled and can't rub at it - what else can I do for him? He seems so uncomfortable - it's on his head /forehea and little patches on his cheeks.

How do I know if he has this? I hadn't eaten anything yet for the day. He is EBF.

Re: What causes eczema flair ups??
our ped prescribed a cortizone cream to apply 2x per day - DD looked 100% better in a day, now I just use it when needed, and aquaphor multiple times a day.
She was 5 mo when we got the cream.

You won't really unless you get his diaper tested or a scratch test. Also dairy can stay in your system for up to 4 wks. Ronan has food related excema and tests negative for everything, but still gets pretty bad patches. Its really trial and error. You can buy cortizone OTC and try that. I would also try a cream like ceravae instead of aquaphor because I think the aquaphor may bother some kids

Re: What causes eczema flair ups??
DS had eczema problems for the first year, he had a lot of different triggers.
Dairy was a big one for him, I also BF and had to keep dairy out of my diet, heat/humidity, dry winter air and even stress was a trigger.
We never used aquaphor, we used the Eucerin intensive therapy daily, we also had a script for eledel for flair ups on his face and we used hydrocortizone for really bad, red, rare flare ups. Our Ped said to use the hydrocortizone sparingly.
We also put baking soda in his bath water to help soothe his skin and at around 9 months we started giving him flaxseed oil (our ped had us start with 1 tsp per day). That really seemed to help him.
ETA: we also keep humidifiers going in is room and the downstairs

Re: What causes eczema flair ups??
I'm not sure what causes it in my DS, but he gets it pretty bad. We have a prescription steroid cream for the really bad flare ups, and I apply the curel eczema relief cream on him 2x a day. We also use a humidifier in the room when he is sleeping. I'm hoping this year when the weather gets warmer it will get better.

Re: What causes eczema flair ups??
My ds uses only dove soap and cetaphil lotion..if it really bad I put the cetaphil on and then the aquafor over...but aquafor alone didnt do much for it.
