What color carpet?
I had this vision for our guest room that was sort of French shabby chic - very pale lilac or blue walls, white furniture, white molding and trim, lots of vintage-y mirrors and black and white photos and bare wooden floors. Turns out the floor boards are in really bad shape and we've decided to carpet instead.
I wouldn't want white carpet - but I'm really looking for a cool look as opposed to warm.
Do you think a beige carpet would ruin "the look?"

How bad are the floors? What kind of problems do they have? Bad enough where you can't paint them?
