What color should I paint my finished basement?

We just finished our small basement and I have no idea what color to paint it. It will be used as a family room for now. My laundry areas is down there too, but concealed behind doors. I really like the "rusty/orange" colors but is that too dark for a small basement? Could I paint 1 wall the bright color and the rest of the room something else? Any ideas would be extremely appreciated!

I would paint it a light/bright color since there won't be a whole lot of natural light shining in the basement.

I'm partial to yellows, pale tans and sage green.

I love those colors too. My kitchen is sage, my bedroom is a golden yellow and mu living room and den are both tan. I guess I should just keep it simple and go with a light neutral color. I thought if I took a color from another part of the house and used it in the basement that would be boring.

We just did our basement orange...bright orange (definately not a color for the faint of heart) But we love it, its so bright down there, you wouldnt even know you are underground... and for us its a fun, hang out/tv/game room, so we don't mind it being bright. I think a darker orange would also look great though. I was exactly like you though my living room was tan, my bathroom light blue adn my kitchen sage...I just wanted something totally out there for the basement.

We did our basement in BM's Navajo White. It's a sort of light cream color. I plan on adding color in with furnishings and other decor.

we almost made an offer on a house that had the basement done in a light bluish gray color. It made the basement seem so light and airy. It didn't feel like a basement at all.

I have BM audubon russet in my kitchen-its a really popular rusty color. When I first did it my co-worker loved it decided to use it in her newly finished basement. She put up white wainscotting & then did the tops of all the walls in the dark color. It came out beautiful! I don't have pics though.

We just finished our split basement (I don't even know if you would call it a basement because it is half above ground & half below) and we painted in BM Wedgewood Gray (light blue/gray) and we made one of the walls BM Hale Navy. I love it. Sorry I don't have any pics downloaded to my computer.

I love the buttery yellow for basements - I think it lightends up dark spaces

We painted our basement a light sage green color.

BM has a nice color called Weston Flax
it is a yellow

I plan on painting ours a light tan color like a sand.
