what color shutters?

the house is a yellow/cream color and the shutters are a dark green (although they look black in this pic)

i hate the green shutters, i don't think they "go" with the house at all and i want to paint them.

what color would you choose?

i would do a color that POPS... like RED!!

or, Royal blue, or even a deep black,


or that wonderful old-style colonial green... i can't think of a proper name to call the green... it's like a blue / green. you often see it with the yellowish in your house and a peachy color. (sounds gross doesn't it? it really looks phenomenal)

I personally like black shutters. That's what we have. It really adds a nice contrast to the siding, and it coordinates with anything else you do to the property.

lb, go to home depot and check out their exterior color booklet thingy.

it shows you base colors and nice complements.

i wouldn't do white b/c they get dirty FAST. and also b/c you want the house to POP.

we have an old house so we took the shutters that were a faded green (on a white house) and spray painted them black. then we painted the poor a blazing, deep red.

looks fabu. traditional, but eye catching.

the yellow of your home is lovely. you want to play it up...not let it fade into the background.

fyi, we used spray paint on all 34 shutters. my finger was numb for a week from pushing that nozzle down

it was still cheaper than renting the spray painting machine from HD...but look into all your options before you decide.

I like blue or black. You wouldn't see white on the yellow house that well.

If you did the blue, you could add blue flowers or Blue Spruces to bring out the blue more. Love yellow and blue together.

I can't tell what color your door is, but I like the look of Black shutters with a red door.

Or the reverse...Red shutters with a nice black door.

Shutters are pretty inexpensive...if you choose to buy new, instead of painting.

Our siding is a very similar color and I currently hate the burgundy shutters we have. I hope to paint them (and the front door) a slate blue type color. At least that is what I am thinking for now!

i like the dark green. maybe paint the garage door green as well and leave the trim white and paint the foundation the same color as the house. the dark green will really pop.

hard to see the true color in the pic but i think BM essex green would look great. color is not as dark as the sample pic

I like the green too. I was going to suggest a slate blue b/c i like the blue and yellow combination also. plus i'm a big blue person, as you know!

my moms house is a simliar color, maybe more towards tanish color, but she has a brick red color for her shutters. it looks nice too. good luck with that one!

To get a rough idea, Certainteed has an on-line design site where you can play around with color ideas. I've used this myself. While not perfect, it might help you sway your decision.

The ranch house doesn't have shutters, so pick a different style house. The colonials have shutters. You're just looking at color combinations at the point, so the shape of the house doesn't matter.

The "paint" category is what you use to "paint" the shutters.

IMO the white would look too washed out with the pale yellow. My first thought is black but I like the navy blue idea too.
