what did they do at your first doctor's visit?

So I went yesterday for my first doctor's visit and all she really did was a sonogram and a pap smear. She also took a urine sample but she didn't take any bloodwork or anything. I thought they were supposed to take blood your first visit.

I asked and the doctor said they take blood at 13 weeks anyway and there was no reason to poke me twice.

does that make sense? I would think if there was something they could find out in the bloodwork they would want to know earlier.

I have another appt in 2 weeks so I'm going to ask again.

I guess every office is different. I went around 5 wks to see the nurse practioner - she just did bloodwork and went over my questions.

I had my first appt w/ my MD & sono at 7w2d.

At my first appt. they weighed me, took my BP, updated my medical history, asked when my last period was and how many at home pregnancy tests I took. I didn't have a sono until my second appt.

They took a urine sample and blood samples (I think 3). The blood was tested for a whole bunch of stuff - to see if I was ever exposed to chicken pox and other diseases, HIV test, and to see if I am a carrier of Tay Sachs or Cystic Fibrosis. 13 weeks seems sort of late for them to screen for this stuff. I think I would call and ask if they would do it sooner if you came back in for an appt.

I had no bloodwork done at my first appoitment, she did a sonogram, discussed what we will be doing in the future appointments, what I should stay away from and what over the counter medication I can take....I believe they are doing the bloodwork next week at my 12th week appointment.

I just had my first "real" appointment yesterday. I was there 4 weeks prior just for the bloodtest to confirm that I was pregnant. Yesterday they did a sonogram, a PAP smear, tetanus shot, TB shot and took 9 vials of blood to test for glucose, HIV, CF, thyroid, etc. I'm 9 weeks today and I'm scheduled to go back in 4 weeks for another sonogram & md visit. I know that all doctors are different since my girlfriends have never had this much testing on the first visit.

I had three sonogram only visits before my first "official" OB visit where they took blood etc.

I had an ultrasound, a lot of blood work, urine, and my history done at my first appointment (4 weeks). Today I had my second appointment (8 weeks 5 days) and only had the ultrasound and urine.
ETA: I forgot - they also did a pap smear at my 1st.

I had the same exact things done as you did at my first appointment! I was a little worried that she did not take blood, but they said they do that the 2nd appointment!

I had my first appt a 9 weeks. I had a sono and gave blood but no urine. They said I would give urine in all the rest of my appts.

I would love to have your Dr!! Mine wanted 6 vials from me in the beginning.... I ended up passing out!! I'm telling them this time there is no way I'm giving 6, take 3 or nothing!

My first visit I had a sonogram, pap, took blood, blood pressure, weight and updated my history. And I had pee in the cup. My first appointment was 5w2d.
