What did you do if your kid hated any stationary toys

Like the exercauser or jumperoo bc I am close to losing my mind.

I put him in there and he starts screaming. I NEED him to be contained a few minutes throughout the day. I feel bad making him cry but he's driving me crazy. He just wants to tear my house apart. He just wants to go go go. I can't leave him unsupervised bc I worry with Jack's toys.

Please give me a solution. I know some will say those playards but I have NO room for that. Don't forget all the stuff I have for Jack too.

Re: What did you do if your kid hated any stationary toys

Now that DS is all over and too big for the struff that keeps him confined for a while I just gate the kitchen and close any doors. I take a few toys from the playroom and he plays happily while I can get something done in the kitchen without having to chase him every 5 mins.
What about a playpen and putting lots of toys in?

Ummm did you forget that Luka still doesn't like Elmo!! lol

What if you went through some of Jacks toys and left him in the playroom? Didn't you have a baby gate there? That is what I did. I wasn't gone hour but I was able to do a few things here and there and would constantly check on DD. Although at Tyler's age she didn't want to be in anything stationary either.

Could you block off the LV and leave him in there with the some of his toys?

Have that. Screams bloody murder. The kid hates being confined. I hate a pretty open layout so I can basically gate him into the living room but that doesn't really solve anything bc my 3 year old will come in/out a zillion times - and the 3 year olds toys are still everywhere which makes me concerned. I got rid of all tiny pieces but I'm still worried one will come out of nowhere.

The playroom has SO much stuff. All of Jacks toys are in here too. I feel like Tyler would be knawing on my computer wires. It's amazing - you think your house is totally babyproofed and then you have another one who gets into a whole new set of dangerous things. Things Jack never even looked twice atChat Icon Chat Icon

Oh D, niiiiightmareChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon is it possible to section off an area where you can see him, and use those gates (the ones you can take down and fold up as needed?)
I take it the high chair would not be his favorite thing either???

I used a playpen, that octagon one, and I could fold it away when I wasn't using it, it was perfect, he had room to flail around with some toys.

Is a sling or the bjorn an option???

Maybe I will get that octagon thing and just try it. I think the problem is that he sees Jack running free and doesn't want to be contained.

Bjorn I wear when we are out shopping or a party, and it is to the point where it's killing my back. The kid has to be 26lbs now - EASY!

He ONLY goes in the highchair to eat. If he is in there for more then .2 seconds without food being shoveled into his mouth he flips outChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I pretty much let him run around and rip my house apart until he grew out of it. Chat Icon Around 18-20 months I guess.

Re: What did you do if your kid hated any stationary toys

I had that when it was just Bella. Lola is the complete opposite.

Bella would NEVER sit with a toy. I was constantly following her around everywhere.

Lola however will sit and play quietly.

They are 100% different in every sense of the word!!

I would try to contain him in some sort of play gate. When it was just Bella, I gated off the living room to conatain her and that seemed to work. It gave her freedom to "explore" but not ALL over the house Chat Icon

Re: What did you do if your kid hated any stationary toys

MAKE room for the playyard is my answer. I have less space then you and an added child and I fit that sucka in! lol... Since he doesnt like the escersaucer/jumperoo, get rid of it. Who cares if Jacks toys are elsewhere, where they normally aren't etc. This is temporary at most and peace of mind and a bit of relaxtion is so worth it no?

We got from my Sister the one that has the toys kinda built into it....and I love it, must better then the regular white gates play yard we had for Noah.

Or use the white gated thingy and take it down when done. Just use to corner stuff off...corner him in? We have our's around Noahs train table with the " little toys" ...I take it down at night cause it sticks out and looks horrid.

Re: What did you do if your kid hated any stationary toys

the ONLY thing my dd is content being contained in is her high chair... I give her snacks, toys, tv whatever she needs just so she will be ok being contained. So when I need go get something done and I need her confined for a few min the high chair goes to whatever room we need to be in. I was serisously considering getting a second high chair just to keep in another part of the house.

I agree with donna. Packed up what you don't need for Tyler, and put some of Jack's things in a closet and rotate them out. Make room for little brother ;)
I think that octagon is your only option. I used to throw ryan in his crib with a few toys too. I know some will say that confuses them, but I do it with colin when I am trying to put away laundry upstairs too. I can get 15 minutes like that.

Well Madelyn hated her exersaucer and jumperoo once she started cruising. There was really nothing I could do about it. I couldn't listen to the screeching and it upset Kaitlyn. I set up the room with the big toys (fisher price house, learning piano etc) then anything that was smaller and not safe for Madelyn I would just have Kaitlyn play with it on a table next to me so I could supervise but it would still give Madelyn some freedom. Or I would wait until Madelyn napped and Kaitlyn was still awake to do things like art or other items with small pieces.

DD loves those melissa and doug dress up dolls - they are great for her - but the small pieces Maddie still tries to eat - so the rule is she can only do it on the floor if Maddie isn't in the room - or she has to do it on a high table with me if Maddie is playing in the room.

The older they get the easier it is-

I have the same problem.......make room for the playard!!! I got the Graco playard -- looks like a pack n play but bigger. They likes that. I have it in the LR. In the playroom I have a playard....i take it down if i need the extra space but for all week when its just me and 3 kids...i do what i have to do!! LOL Pretty or not, it works!!
I would get rid of the stuff he won't sit in anymore.

Is he too big for a walker? I bought a simple walker not one of those car shaped ones and I can get some work done around my house putting my ds in there. I also put some things on there he can munch on.

Cailen hated them too. he screamed when I wasn't holding him.

I had a messy house and never got anything done. Chat Icon

He was really in his Bjorn a lot for everyday household activities - it was all I could do to get stuff done!

honestly...we did not have room for a gated area either, but we did it anyway.

it looks absurd and takes up a ton of space, but there's nothing else we can do! he has about 90 billion toys in there to choose from!

you can kind of see it here...

I want to add that he can stand up on the sides and he LOVES to do that.

We try to put a lot of toys in there and rotate them out.

Sometimes he will just play with the TV remote and that will entertain him in there.. I also try to sit in there with him when I can so he sees that it's not "bad" - KWIM?

Sometimes we can get 20 minutes out of him in there which to me, is great!

I have this too. She usually fusses once I put her in, but quiets down and plays in less than a minute. It's the only way I get things done!

My Ethan is the same way. He hates being in a playpen or confined behind a baby gate and will, get this, push one of the bigger toys over to it and try to stand on it to climb over. Nightmare!!!

If there's something I need to do right away, I'll put him in the playroom with some Puffs or Cheerios. That will at least keep him sitting down for a few minutes. Not the best suggestion but you do what you have to do sometimes. Chat Icon

I'm sorry. I'm no help! Chat Icon

I have to laugh at all your Tyler posts b/c they all describe my middle girls to a T. No advice other than time. In time it'll get better.
You can't make him like certain things b/c it's his disposition/personality. I tried all different things, tv shows, dvd's etc. They wanted no part of it. Exersaucers, play gyms, pack and plays were just a place to store things b/c they never used them. He'd probably be good with a ball pit or a something he could go nuts in. My kids had the run of the house so they were all over the place. It was very stressful. The way my house was up, it didn't allow for gates. It's been renovated since then so it's different now.
