compared to 2 weeks? Did he/she sleep less during the day, were they more alert and responsive?

Just trying to get an idea of what to possibly expect as we move on towards the one month mark. I noticed today that he is awake a little more in the day but still not very responsive to playing or anything. Kinda just chills until the bottle is in his mouth.

Totally different baby.

Smiles, started to make "happy sounds" not just cries.

Eats more.

More into tummy time.

Do you have a subscription to baby center online? They email me a weekly update on what to expect for each week.

DH and I love getting them!!

Honestly, the best thing to do is not expect anything and just go with the flow. Just follow his cues.

DD was still pretty much the same at one month. Six weeks was when I saw the most change- smiles, less sleepy, more alert...etc.

At one month she was more responsive, liked her playmat more, would focus more(especially on faces). At 5 weeks she began smiling. She would also coo more. She always made the ooooo sound.

Re: What differences did you see with your child at one month

at 4 weeks:

DD got really bad baby acne
Her hemangioma (strawberry birthmark) showed up on her forehead
She started farting ALL THE TIME

at 6 weeks:

started smiling and got much more alert
still had acne
had laser surgery to remove hemangioma

now at 8 weeks:

acne is gone and skin is back to being beautiful
hemangioma is going away - thanks to laser surgery

DD is awake more during the day - sleeps much more at night, and is a happy, smiling, (still farting) baby girlChat Icon

Ok, I've got your baby now at 2 1/2 weeks... and she's had a red birthmark on her forehead since birth. May I ask about the laser surgery you had done on her?? Chat Icon

If it's a hemangioma (strawberry), it will grow for one year or so - then start to go away on its own - most are gone by age 5. Since it was on DD's forehead and seemed to be growing quickly, we opted for laser surgery. Not all hemangiomas grow quickly.

We went to the pediatrician first to get it diagnosed - then went to the dermatologist to learn more. My dermatologist referred us to Dr. Melanie Grossman in NYC, who specializes in laser treatments (for mole removal, hair removal, etc.) We took Ainsley to see Dr. Grossman and she then referred us to the Laser Skin and Surgery Center of NY to have the laser treatment done there (they have a better laser than Grossman). So we walked from Dr. Grossman's office to the laser center (34th and 1st) and met with Dr. Geroneous (sp?). The laser treatment took all of 2 seconds and as soon as it was over, the birthmark went from red to purple. It started scabbing the next day. That was at 6 weeks.

Now at 8 weeks the scab is off and the hemangioma is much lighter. Ainsley has a follow up appt. at the laser center on Monday and will most likely need another laser treatment to get rid of it for good.

Not everyone agrees with treating superficial hemangiomas with a laser (pulse dye V beam laser). But after doing A LOT of research and speaking with 3 doctors, we opted to have the procedure done in order to stop the growth and get rid of it while it was quite small and flat. I just didnt want it growing.

But it would have gone away on its own when DD was between the ages of 5-9. I just didnt want to wait.

If you have any questions about it - feel free to FM - I've been FMing another mom on the board about this and its been great to share info.
