What do I do now? Stomach Issue..Really Long..
I will try to make this short.
On February 28th I woke up with a bad cold..I went to the doctor who said she thought I was getting a sinus infection and prescribed me an Antibiotic. I took the Antibiotic for 2 days and started getting really bad diaherrea. I figured it was aside affect of the Antibiotic but within 2 days of non stop going to the bathroom I was dizzy, naseous, shaky, and had to go to the ER for severe dehydration. I was in the ER last Wednesday nite and got an iv drip and naseous medicine.
That thursday I was really constipated--I figured it was from immodium that I took. I started throwing up because I couldnt go to the bathroom at all..
By that Saturday I had to go BACK to the hospital for another iv and naseous medicine and they gave me acid medicine because the reflux was killing me.
I came home Sunday and I felt so-so..This entire week I have been eating really plain foods, bananas...crackers..toast...potatoes... and I have only been drinking gatorade as told do so..oh and gingerale..
So now here it is the following Thursday and the minute I even eat potatoes I get really really bad diaherea..
Now in the hospital all of my blood work, urine, and stool samples came back fine. They said my body got a stomach virus that was suseptible to my body because of the original antibiotic I took..
I guess my question is this..Could I still have such a strong stomach virus? Should I now see a gastro doctor? I mean I am doing my best to eat bland and stay hydrated but come on I mean in total this is like 14 days since this fiasco began..I dont even kno what I should do next...

Re: What do I do now? Stomach Issue..Really Long..
I'm so sorry you're feeling so sick.
Something similar happened to me this summer (on my honeymoon, actually - it was awful). I had what I thought was a stomach virus because it started with a fever, but had "bathroom issues" - to put it mildly - for at least 3 weeks after that. I never went to the hospital, because I kept myself pretty well hydrated and figured they couldn't do anything for me. After I got home, I went in for blood tests and had to give, uh, samples, and everything came back negative. It eventually went away. Recently, I was talking to a family friend who is a doctor who specializes in infectious disease. He told me that my symptoms were classic food poisoning - probably E. Coli, maybe salmonella, maybe 100 other things. I'd never considered that, because I thought that food poisoning passes in a few days and thought you had to be "sick" to run a fever. Not so. Food poisoning usually passes in a week, maybe 2, but me traveling all over, not sleeping right, not taking care of myself, it lasted much longer.
I don't know how similar your story is to mine, but after 3 weeks I was pretty back to normal again. Well, a lot lighter in the wallet after all the blood tests, "samples," even a colonoscopy (they were worried about me having IBD). In the end, nothing the doctors did made any difference. It had to run its course. Hope it's the same for you and it just passes. Good luck!

Have you gone to a GI? I would go to a specialist. They may want to run some further testing like a colonoscopy, endoscopy even a CT Scan to see if you have a blockage or something else going on.
