What do I wear to a Bar Mitzvah this weekend?
It's at a Conservative Temple. It's our direct neighbor's boy. No idea what to wear. Do I HAVE to wear something long? It's at 9:30 am and I assume it will go most of the day since the party is there...
TIA!!!

Wear a dress. Just make sure your shoulders and knees are covered. Have fun!

I would wear a dress with your shoulders covered and a suit for your DH. Yes, for the ceremony it would be nice if your DH wore a yarmulke. Does he have to, no, but it would be nice if he did. They are normally provided by the family so no one used them before either.

Re: What do I wear to a Bar Mitzvah this weekend?
Shoulders covered is definitely a must (but something with short sleeves or 3/4 sleeves is fine). At my Conservative temple we do not need to cover our knees but I wouldn't wear anything more than a couple inches above knee length. A sweater dress with boots or pumps is a good way to go, or a pencil skirt with a blouse can work, too. Your DH should definitely be in a suit, and yarmulkes will most likely be available at the temple for him to put on. IMO it is respectful to put it on before going into the sanctuary. Also, though it is not required, many married women in a Conservative congregation also cover their heads with something when in the sanctuary, so they may have white head coverings available for you to pin on as well (looks a bit like a doily). I personally wear a hat when attending services at a temple because I don't like the doily things, but again it's not mandatory at our temple, I just wanted to give you a heads up. HTH!

I agree with all this. I often wear sweater dresses to synagogue. I always make sure to keep my shoulders covered, and I don't wear anything more than a couple of inches above the knee. DH should wear a yarmulke, and they will be there for him, most likely personalized with the Bar Mitzvah boy's name and date of ceremony.

DH should still wear one out of respect.
FYI - Check with your neighbor to find out how long the service is and what time you should go.
My bat mitzvah started at 8:30/9:00 and the service was about 3 hours.

All males over 3 years old, Jewish or not, must cover their heads in a Temple.
And he should definitely wear a suit: his is a very important occasion, think wedding to compare. It's an equally momentous occasion! :)
Have fun! :)

Re: What do I wear to a Bar Mitzvah this weekend?
You can also wear a dress that is sleeveless, but wear a shrug to cover your shoulders. Then, if they have a reception somewhere else, you can take off the shrug. This is what I did for my cousin's Bar Mitzvah. A shrug or a blazer would work.

Just saw that the reception is there as well. But most likely it will be in a different room, so you can still take off your jacket.
