What do you do when you cannot control your own crying in front of DC?
I just cannot stop crying and it's upsetting Ava, and we're home alone together. She's so upset and keeps asking me if I'm ok, and I don't know what to tell her We lost a close family friend today, and I just can't stop crying

I don't know - as upset as I have gotten in my life, I have rarely cried in front of Cailen.... It scares him... unfortunately, I have had a lot of experience suppressing tears, so I have gotten pretty good at it by now....
I say, just cry and tell her you are sad. Sometimes little girls get sad, and sometimes mommies get sad. Ask her for hugs and tell her you feel better, but you are still sad because something happened to a friend f yours. Be sure to assure her its not her...

i just reassure the boys... i wind up hugging them very close tillthey tell me to stop it.. but they do keep asking if im ok.. i say yes baby!! i love you!

I tell them the reason I am crying. Just tell her you are sad. They cry all the time so they can relate to feeling sad. My kids are used to seeing me cry I get emotional all the time.

I would tell her the truth...that you are sad...but that being with her helps make you happy.
Oddly enough, I haven't cried in front of Steven. I'm not much of a crier

Rachel I'm so very sorry for your loss....
I would just hug her close.... What I do with Kristina when I'm sad is hold her and sing lullabies to her.... She gets all melty mushy in my arms which comforts me, and she doesn't see me crying.... she just hears me singing to her....
I love that to babies it doesn't matter what your voice sounds like.

Thanks, girls. I took your advice and told her that I was sad and that sometimes mommies cry when they're sad. I told her I was sad for my friend and she just hugged me and pat me on the back, which just made me cry even more. She's such a caring, compassionate little person. I think she really helped me move past my emotions quicker. She's seen me cry before, but normally I can control it well. Tonight I just couldn't. When I put her to bed, she put her hands on my face and said, "Mommy, you're not crying anymore! I love you so much!"

I would say that you're sad & it's ok to be sad sometimes. And Rach, it is ok to be sad...even in front of your children.

I agree. Also, I've been known to close myself in my pantry
