What do you do when your boss asks you to compromise your integrity?
I am a teacher and we are administering the ELA componet test and there was a student who was late today. Apparently, there was a medical emergency and she busted her tail to get to school. However, she arrived after the mandated time and that the reading was completed.
However, my boss has asked that I over look this and administer the exam to her any way. I feel sorry for her, but not really.
When are students going to learn that there are consequences for their actions?

i know how you feel. IMO, many of these kids DO NOT adhere to rules and procedures. for whatever reason, they feel that they don't apply to them. can't blame the kids 100% cause as you mentioned, it is the adults that encourage this behavior.

I would let her take the test. Things in life come up and Im sure she did her best to get there on time, obviously circumstances came up that were possibly out of her control. Its not like she was cheating on the test she just didnt start it at the same time as others.

I honestly don't think YOU should do it.
If your boss wants to allow her to take the test have your boss take this student in another room that way s/he has to take the responsibility of ignorning the rules. I honestly do not think it was fair of your admin to ask you to compramise yourself, your job and your values (rule following). From this post alone I can tell you are uncomfortable with the idea so I would say something.

I agree. I have IBS and it always got in the way of those type of things. IBS is stress related so on days that I had a big test I would get nervous, and my stomach would act up. Its a very embarrasing situation and i never liked to tell teachers, so a lot of the time i just looked like a flake, when i am not

I agree. IF your boss is soconvinced that your student should take the test, then you boss should administer it. Sorry you were put in a tough situation.

The student is high school aged. I have decided that I won't give her the test. I will not have that responsibilty on my hands.
I came from a school that followed the rules to a "T". I am a rule follower and not a breaker. My feeling is God forbid the state sends a rep in, I think I would just die!
