What do you do when your pants are a smidge too tight?
I know pregnant women have those tube top bands so they can keep their pants unbuttoned. What can NON pregnant women do?

Close their mouth and lose a few lbs! 
I just had the same problem and I am on the way to recovery. It's amazing what 2 days of sensible eating will do! Most important-no late eating!

drink a LOT of water. it's amazing what a littlw water retention will do to your size!
ETA: if that fails, loop a rubber band through the button hole and around the button. that works after big meals too

I don't wear them. I just hate that tight feeling. Maybe I just went too tight in the 80s and now my body is telling me NO!!! Unfortunately, there are a lot more jeans in my "can't wear" collection than in my "can wear" collection.

Honestly I have bought a Bella Band even though I have never been pregnant.
In my case I bought a skirt that I loved without trying it on... it was clearly mislabeled or someone stretched it out in the dressing room because when I got it home- the top- which was all elastic- was so loose it was falling off of me...
I loved the skirt and they didn't have any others left- so I got the idea of the Bella Band from a pregnant friend.
Ordered one online and it keeps the skirt up for me.
In your case you could use it to keep the pants unbuttoned...

Lay on the bed and use a hanger to pull up the zipper so you dont pull the skin off your finger..
