I open the bag and immediately toss the front end and then when we're done with the loaf, I toss the other end with the bag 
Noooooooooo! you must keep both ends until they meet in the end!
My mom always told me it keeps the loaf fresher that way LOL I've never dared to do anything different!

mine too - and you just flip it over the end to get to the bread in the meantime....its kind of a pain but its supposed to be bad luck to get rid of one.....i had to teach my dh that since <<horror> he used ot eat it when we were dating , now we throw it out for the birds but the bunnies usually beat them to it!

! I've never heard of this! It's just such a pain in the butt to keep moving the front end piece out of the way

we buy the potato bread so the end are not that full brown, use them just like the rest of the loaf

My son loves that part He will only eat the ends
Before he came along we would go to the park and feed it to the ducks or toss it in the trash.
