What do you do with your newborn when they're awake?

Just curious as to how you entertain or what you do with your newborn throughout the day when they're not sleeping or crying (lol)?

There isnt much to do. But I hold him practically the whole time. I talk to him and sing to him, and sometimes read him a book. As hes getting older, he is starting to like different things. He goes in his swing, which he really likes, but I only put him in there usually once a day. I also put him under his mobile (he like to sit in the boppy). I also put him in his bouncer, looking out the window (he loves to look outside).

I also go out with him alot. We are always on the go!

When she is awake and not crying, she just likes to look aroumd. If I do tummy time she starts to cry. So mostly, I just talk or sing to her and make silly faces.

He plays under his mobile or activity mat. I talk to him. We go for walks.

Basically, I just sit her in her bouncy seat and narrate my day for her. Otherwise, we'll spend some time on the playmat or occasionally in the swing (which she really doesn't love). Just this week I started putting on the Baby Einstein videos, so Abby and Katherine watch that together--it's cute! But most importantly, we get out at least once a day.

Great question! I find it so tiring to carry her around, but her favorite thing is really to be held while she looks around in awe

Yes we go out for walks too every day - but she usually falls asleep in the stroller so I don't really think of that as "awake" time for her...

In the very early days, Emma loved her Rainforest mat/gym thing. And she loved the swing.

I put him in his bouncer, I sit him up on the couch with me in his boppy and kinda play with him, make faces etc.

I use the tummy time mat for a few minutes a day.

And thats about it. LOL

unless we are out running errands and stuff.

Feeding, changing diapers and getting him dressed takes up awake time too.

We go for our daily walk up and down the huge staircase to help mommy get back in shape!! We talk to each other. Although, I think he might be drunk most of the time. I mean he drools and slurs his words so badly that I have no idea what he is talking about. We have playmat time. I sing to him so much that he is probably sick of it. I read to him. He seems to be enjoying A Prayer for Owen Meany thus far. And our favorite game..... let's see if mom can keep me from crying!!

Thank him for NOT crying.

I talk to him as if he will respond (I shy away from "baby talk") and go for walks, shopping and the pool. We also do laundry together.

I hold him, we walk around the house, sit in the glider, he sits in the bouncy seat, swing, on his activity mat, we take walks outside (when it's not too hot) and he goes everywhere with me now that I can drive again. I talk to him and sing to him a lot. He watches TV and looks outside at the back yard. Basically anything that will stimulate his vision and help him gain strength (tummy time) is on the agenda.

honestly, I would talk to him as if he could understand me. I also sang to him, tickled him, bounced him on my knee, and shook toys in front of him (which he could care less about at the time)

I feel he is so alert and so playful now because of how much I did with him since he was born!

ETA - We went on lots of walks... for hours - it was the only time he would nap!!!

I hold her, read to her, sing to her, give her tummy time on her activity mats, take her for walks (but she falls alseep), talk with her.
