What do you guys think of two "Open House" parties?

DH and I counted up all of our friends and family and we came up with over 125 people...so, we're thinking about doing two "Open House" parties- one an a Saturday and then another one the following day.

Basically, DH's father's side of the family is 60+ people. Whereas, my family, his mother's side and our friends all combined come out to 70 people. So, we thought we'd divide it out that way.

What do you think? Weird? Should we just "chance it" and do one party and hope for a manageable crowd? Chat Icon

I would split it if you relaly think that many people are going to come. You may invite that many, but will they all come?

That's a lot of people to manage, so if they're really all coming, i would split it.

Out of DH's family, I think we'd only get 20. But, they're all older people and I'd like to be able to keep them all INSIDE comfortably. Out of the first group, I DEFINITELY think we'll break 50.

Re: What do you guys think of two "Open House" parties?

I just had an open house on Sunday. We invited over 100 people, ended up with 70-80 responding that they were coming, and had 60-70 actually attend. It worked out nicely. Not everyone was there at the same time, so it didn't feel crowded at all. We have a nice-sized backyard, so people were outside a lot, and then also sitting in our den, LR and DR. We have an average sized split level house, and it really didn't feel packed in the least.

I have to tell you that I was exhausted by the end of the day on Sunday, and there is no way I could have handled hosting another party the next day. There was so much clean up to do from the party, and if you were having a second one, you would have to go throw a whole extra cleaning...not worth it, IMO, based on the numbers you think will actually attend.

Good luck!!

I would do one party and have it be a true open house so that people will come by when they want/can come.

We never did a housewarming this year (we were lazy) so we are probably going to do a big one for Thanksgiving (we do an annual T-giving party, it's a big hit because who else does T-giving parties?LOL).

We are literally inviting everyone and hoping for the best!
